Frequently asked questions about underfloor heating and heat pumps
Does underfloor heating also cool in summer?
On its own it provides heat. Combined with an air-source heat pump it can gently cool the floor, and in this house the real summer cooling comes from the ducted air hidden in the false ceiling. A single technical room covers comfort all year round.
Can underfloor heating be installed in a renovation?
Yes, as in this project: the circuits are laid over a studded panel and covered with a mortar screed; any flooring then goes on top. The key is to allow for the height of that screed when planning the renovation, so it is worth discussing before the work starts.
Who maintains the installation after the work?
We keep maintaining it ourselves. This house was finished in 2018 and has been running ever since with our maintenance. As an RITE-registered company, we leave the installation legalised and follow it up year after year.
