How the Daitsu multi-hybrid 3-pipe system works

Many clients ask us why we strongly advocate for the Daitsu 3-pipe multi-hybrid systems for detached villas in Mallorca. The answer is not marketing; it is pure physics and economic common sense.

In a conventional 2-pipe heat pump installation, the system can produce either cooling for your house in summer, or domestic hot water (DHW), but it cannot do both at the same time efficiently. When it is cooling your house and demands hot water, it must stop the AC, switch its internal cycle valve, and run DHW production, consuming extra electricity.

The Daitsu 3-pipe multi-hybrid system adds a third pipe connecting the compressor discharge directly to your domestic hot water cylinder. The physical principle is simple:

The physical recovery cycle:

  1. Indoor Cooling: The indoor AC unit absorbs thermal heat from inside your home.
  2. Heat Recovery: Instead of venting that waste heat outside through the outdoor fan (as every standard AC unit on earth does), the 3-pipe system automatically redirects it to the domestic hot water heat exchanger.
  3. Hot water as a by-product of cooling: The thermal energy being extracted from your house heats your hot water cylinder instantly, with no extra electricity cost for the tank. The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid system (AOHD 40, 45 and 54 models) reaches a COP of up to 4.24 per the official technical sheet — a performance very hard to match in conventional domestic HVAC, because you're reusing the same electrical energy twice.

Put simply: all summer long, while your AC is running, you get domestic hot water as a by-product of cooling — with no extra electricity cost for the tank. In Mallorca, where summer lasts practically 5 months and AC demand is high, this technical integration delivers real savings on your power bill — the magnitude depends on usage, but we've seen substantial reductions in DHW power draw in homes with heavy summer AC use.

Because when you buy online, you assume all technical responsibility for sizing, configuration, and shipping damage, and then you'll struggle to find a certified installer who wants to take responsibility for equipment they didn't source. We supply everything direct from the official manufacturer, handle transport, install, configure, and certify it before the Department of Industry. You have a single contact who is 100% accountable for the system and the warranty.

What brands and models do you use for solar self-consumption in Mallorca?

We only install world-leading brands. For grid-tied solar self-consumption, we use Fronius Primo or Symo inverters for their proven efficiency — designed and made in Austria, with 15+ years of proven field history. How exactly does the Daitsu multi-hybrid 3-pipe heat pump work?

It is a heat recovery technology. When you turn on the air conditioning in summer, the unit extracts heat from inside to cool your house. A conventional machine simply blows this heat outside and wastes it. The Daitsu 3-pipe multi-hybrid recovery system redirects this surplus heat through an extra refrigerant line to heat your domestic hot water (DHW) cylinder. As a result, you get hot water as a by-product of cooling — no extra electricity to heat the tank — all summer long while cooling your home.

Is it mandatory to certify this equipment with the Ministry of Industry?

Yes. All solar, heating, and cooling installations in Mallorca must be officially certified by a registered installer with the Directorate-General for Industry (Balearic Government). We take care of the entire process, sign your official RITE or electrical certificate (CIE), and submit it so that everything is 100% legal, which is essential to sell excess solar energy, set up special tariffs, or claim grants.

What warranty do the systems installed by JSL have?

The equipment comes with official manufacturer warranties, ranging from 3 to 5 years for heat pumps and wastewater systems, and 5 to 10 years for premium solar inverters (Fronius and Victron). On top of the manufacturer's warranty, the installation and wiring are covered by the 3-year legal warranty required by Spanish consumer law (art. 120).
