Daitsu Multi-Hybrid · 3-pipe heat pump · Mallorca

One unit cools your home, heats it and gives you hot water

We're Joaquín and Juan. We've been fitting heat pumps across Mallorca together since 1998. When the case allows it, we fit the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid system (the one we informally call "3-pipe heat pump"): a heat pump with heat recovery that cools your home in summer, heats it in winter and produces your domestic hot water all year — and in summer the DHW comes out at no extra electrical cost, as a by-product of the air conditioning. COP up to 4.24 per the official Daitsu technical sheet.

The technical trick of the third pipe

Why three pipes and not two — plain English

A conventional 2-pipe heat pump does one thing at a time: either cools your home, or heats it, or heats the DHW. When DHW is demanded while cooling, it has to stop the refrigeration cycle, switch the cycle valve and start the DHW production from scratch — burning more electricity.

The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid is a heat pump with heat recovery. It's a hybrid air-to-water + air-to-air system: a single AOHD outdoor unit feeds at the same time —

The trick is the heat recovery: while cooling your home in summer, the extracted heat is diverted to the DHW tank instead of being dumped outside through the outdoor fan. Result:

  1. It extracts heat from inside your home (that's what any AC unit does).
  2. It recovers that heat and sends it via the hydraulic module to the DHW tank.
  3. It heats your DHW at no extra electrical cost, because that heat is already being extracted from the house. Per the official Daitsu technical sheet, the system COP reaches up to 4.24 (AOHD 40 model, 12 kW; AOHD 45 and 54 reach 4.02 and 3.96 respectively). A performance very hard to match in conventional domestic HVAC, because you're reusing the same electrical energy twice.

In winter it works as a standard heat pump: extracts heat from the outdoor air and warms your home at very low electrical consumption. It operates across a wide outdoor temperature range (-15 °C to +50 °C) and the hot-water output adjusts between 35 °C and 55 °C in 1 °C increments. It's CTE READY (compliant with the Spanish Building Code) and Smart Grid-ready, integrating naturally with your solar panels to push efficiency even further.

The complete system we fit

The official Daitsu Multi-Hybrid pieces

AOHD outdoor unit

Full DC Inverter technology with real-time PID control (15% better performance than conventional inverter). Models AOHD 40 (12 kW), 45 (14 kW) and 54 (16 kW). COP up to 4.24.

Aquabox / Hidrobox + Aquatank

The hydraulic module (water side): DHW, underfloor heating or radiators. Aquatank cylinder up to 300 litres with high-density insulation that holds the heat for days.

Direct-expansion indoor units

The air side: wall, cassette, ducted, floor or ceiling units. Variable refrigerant flow with heat recovery. One outdoor unit feeds multiple indoor units with per-room control.

Jaga low-temperature radiators

Low-H2O emitters working at 35-40 °C. Ultra-quiet microfans that warm the room quickly with very low electrical draw.

CTE READY · Smart Grid (integrates with solar PV and thermal) · Wi-Fi via the EWPE Smart app · Modbus control for home automation · Outdoor range -15 °C to +50 °C.

What you get

Lower bills, better comfort, fully legalised

If you combine it with solar panels, the electricity that the heat pump uses comes from the sun — and the final bill in many of the homes we fit in Mallorca comes close to zero.

FAQ

What people ask us

What makes the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid (3-pipe) different?

It's an air-to-water + air-to-air heat pump with heat recovery. A single AOHD outdoor unit feeds at the same time the hydraulic module (Hidrobox / Aquabox AIHD, water side: DHW in Aquatank, underfloor, Jaga) and the direct-expansion indoor units (air side: wall, cassette, ducted, floor or ceiling) operating with variable refrigerant flow. The third circuit diverts the heat extracted in cooling to the DHW tank — so in summer the hot water comes out at no extra electrical cost. Per the official Daitsu technical sheet the COP reaches up to 4.24 (AOHD 40 model, 12 kW).

Is it noisy? Does it need major work?

The outdoor unit's noise level is low (similar to a modern split). In most cases no major building work is needed: old emitters get swapped for Jaga low-temperature ones and the air side is solved with ducts or VRF indoor units.

How much does a typical installation cost?

Depends on the size of the home, the emitters and whether the tank needs replacing. For a medium-size detached home in Mallorca the typical range is between 8,000 € and 15,000 € before grants. Free survey and fixed-price quote in writing.

Are there grants?

Yes. Govern Balear's Factor d'Insularitat (40% of cost, max 3,000 €) and, in Palma, IBI 100% rebate over 6 years (art. 18.2). We handle the paperwork.

Who comes to the installation, Joaquín or Juan?

Juan comes, Joaquín comes, or we both come. We've been working together since 1998, both RITE-certified, both do everything. No subcontractors.

What warranty?

Eurofred (Daitsu's official distributor) warranty: 3 years on the equipment including spare parts, labour and call-out costs. Extendable to 5 years depending on the plan. JSL workmanship warranty on the installation. Annual maintenance recommended to preserve warranty and optimal performance.
