How hard is the water in Llucmajor?
SINAC lists 6 networks with a recent bulletin in the municipality, all from wells. The one for Llucmajor town centre is the hardest; those on the coast (s'Arenal, sa Torre, Maioris, Tolleric, Badia Gran, s'Estanyol) are very similar to one another:

The town gave 417 mg/L CaCO₃ on 7 April 2026. On the coast, between 267 and 294 mg/L CaCO₃: s'Arenal gave 29 °fH on 2 June 2026. The coastal networks sit right on the 30 °fH line from which some manufacturers ask for the water to be treated.

Where it pays and where to test first
In the town, at 42 °fH, every 100 m³ of water brings about 42 kg of limescale (as calcium carbonate), above the 3 mmol/L (30 °fH) that Daikin sets in the manual of its EKHHP hot-water heat pump for treating the water. There a softener protects the water heater, boiler and appliances, no question.
In s'Arenal, Badia Gran or sa Torre the water is around that 30 °fH line. It is still hard water (comfortable for an installation is under 15), but the decision depends on what is in the house: with a heat pump, solar panels with a storage cylinder or several bathrooms, it pays sooner; in a small apartment with a water heater, less may be enough. That is why we test your water and tell you, also when the answer is that you don't need one.
Setting and drinking water
What it is set to, in the town and on the coast
A softener adds about 46 mg/L of sodium for every 10 °fH of limescale it removes; that is why it is not set to zero, and why it is for the installation, not for the glass. In the town the starting point is 42 °fH and the unit regenerates more often; in s'Arenal it is 29, and it has an easier time.
In both cases it is set without going below the 55 mg/L of hardness the regulation requires, and for drinking and cooking we propose an unsoftened tap or reverse osmosis; we recommend the Kinetico RO Premier.
Sizing and installation
How it is sized and how it is fitted
The size doesn't come from a table: it comes from the hardness measured at your meter, the water the household uses and the flow that showers and taps call for at the same time. The installation is governed by the CTE DB HS 4 building code (non-return valve, bypass, test point and meter): the detail is on water softeners in Mallorca. We fit every brand; the one we recommend is Kinetico (Premier Plus and Premier Compact), which according to the manufacturer works without electricity and regenerates according to the water used.
The case of Llucmajor
Town, coastal estates and rural fincas
On the coastal estates (Badia Gran, Badia Blava, sa Torre, Maioris, Tolleric) the usual home is a detached house with garden and pool: irrigation and pool filling are taken off before the softener, so as not to spend salt on water that doesn't need it. In the town, houses with the water inlet on the façade and little room: that is why we ask for photos first.
And Llucmajor has a huge amount of countryside. On fincas that run on a well or cistern, the first thing is the lab analysis: in the south of Mallorca there are wells that come up salty, and a softener doesn't remove that. How hard is Llucmajor's water?
According to the latest bulletins reported to SINAC (Spanish Ministry of Health), the network for Llucmajor town has 417 mg/L CaCO₃: 42 °fH or 23 °dH (bulletin of 7 April 2026). On the coast it is less hard: s'Arenal gave 29 °fH on 2 June 2026, and the networks of sa Torre, Maioris, Badia Blava and Badia Gran, around 27 °fH. All are supplied from wells.
Do I need a water softener in s'Arenal or Badia Gran?
It depends on your home. In s'Arenal and Badia Gran the water is around 27-29 °fH according to SINAC, on the line of the 30 °fH (3 mmol/L) from which Daikin asks for the water of its EKHHP hot-water heat pump to be treated. With a heat pump, a solar cylinder or a lot of taps, it pays; in a small flat with a water heater, perhaps not. We test your water and tell you plainly, also if the answer is no.
Why is the water in Llucmajor town harder than on the coast?
They are different networks and wells. The town's bulletin in SINAC (7 April 2026) gives 42 °fH of hardness; s'Arenal's, 29 °fH on 2 June 2026, and the networks of sa Torre, Maioris, Badia Blava and Badia Gran are around 27. That is why in the town a softener makes a difference, no question, and on the coast we test before proposing one.
Should you water the garden with softened water at a house in Llucmajor?
It isn't a good idea. Softened water carries more sodium (about 46 mg/L for every 10 °fH removed) and does the garden no favours; besides, every cubic metre that goes through the unit uses salt. In the houses of Badia Gran, sa Torre or Tolleric we take irrigation and the pool off before the softener, with the bypass and meter the CTE DB HS 4 building code requires.
I have a rural finca in Llucmajor with a well. Where do I start?
With a lab analysis. In the south of Mallorca there are wells that come up with salt and nitrates, and a softener only removes limescale. RD 3/2023 sets, among others, 200 mg/L of sodium, 250 mg/L of chloride and 50 mg/L of nitrate for drinking water. With the result we tell you which unit is needed and which isn't; if the water is for irrigation, it isn't treated the same as drinking water.
