Air conditioning in Port de Pollença,
cooling in August, heating in January.

In Port de Pollença a split doesn't rest in winter: people who live here use it for heating too. We install splits, multi-splits and ducted systems in flats on the promenade, villas and business premises, with both seasons and the north wind in mind. We're Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered installer certified for F-gases.

Air conditioning in Port de Pollença

The Port faces the bay in front and has the mountains behind. Summer is humid, winter windy, and a good share of the houses are lived in for both.

A unit that also heats

An air conditioner is an air-to-air heat pump: in winter it heats using far less than an electric radiator. For anyone who spends January in the Port it's worth looking at the heating efficiency on the datasheet and not only the cooling, and putting the indoor unit where the warm air doesn't stay up at the ceiling.

The outdoor unit, sheltered from the north

The tramontana comes straight in across the bay. If the wind blows against the outdoor unit's discharge, the fan is forced; installation manuals ask you to avoid that or to fit a baffle screen. We look for the sheltered façade, and on the seafront we check whether the manufacturer offers the coil with anti-corrosion treatment.

Flats on the promenade and in the streets behind

In a building, the façade belongs to everyone: Spain's Horizontal Property Act (art. 7.1) requires that the external configuration isn't altered and that the owners' association is told first. And with balconies close together, the outdoor unit's noise is checked on the datasheet before choosing a unit.

In numbers

Heating, cooling and consumption, with data

The average January low at Palma airport is 3.8 °C (AEMET, 1981-2010), and a unit such as the General ASEH09KJCAL, for example, declares heating down to −20 °C: more than enough margin for the Port's climate. In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit defrosts for a few minutes, according to its manufacturer; that's normal.

In summer humidity rules: 62-65 % on average in July and August in the same AEMET series. The RITE (IT 1.1.4.1.2) takes 45-60 % indoor humidity for summer. And IDAE, Spain's energy agency, calculates around 7 % savings for each degree you don't ask of the machine: 26 °C in summer and 21 °C in winter.

Rules and grants

Before you order it

Capacity is calculated room by room from its thermal loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1): in the Port, the big window onto the bay weighs heavily in summer and the north façade in winter.

Air-to-air air conditioning in homes is not covered by FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026). If you live here all year and want heating and hot water with a grant, see heat pumps in Port de Pollença.

Servicing: whatever the RITE sets (IT.3, table 3.1) or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's. Only personnel certified for fluorinated gases work on the refrigerant circuit (RD 115/2017, art. 3).

How we work

How we do it in Port de Pollença, in 3 steps

1

How you use the house

Tell us whether you live here all year or come in summer, and send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit.

2

Sizing for two seasons

Summer and winter thermal loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and a unit chosen by its datasheet in cooling and in heating, and by its noise.

3

A sheltered installation

Outdoor unit out of the north wind, a bracket that doesn't pass on vibration, circuit leak-tested and drain checked.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about air conditioning in Port de Pollença

Can an air conditioner serve as heating to get through the winter in Port de Pollença?

Yes. It's an air-to-air heat pump and winter in Port de Pollença is mild: the average January low at Palma airport is 3.8 °C (AEMET, 1981-2010) and a unit such as the General ASEH09KJCAL declares heating down to −20 °C. It uses considerably less than an electric radiator. For the whole house and the hot water, an air-to-water heat pump is another option.

Does the tramontana affect the outdoor unit in Port de Pollença?

Yes, if it hits it head-on: wind against the discharge slows the fan and the unit performs worse. That's why installation manuals ask you not to expose it to the prevailing wind or to fit a baffle screen. In Port de Pollença we look for the façade sheltered from the north and a firm bracket, and we keep the clearances the manufacturer sets in its manual.

I have a flat on the promenade in Port de Pollença: where can the outdoor unit go?

Wherever your owners' association says. The façade is a common element and Spain's Horizontal Property Act (art. 7.1) doesn't allow the external configuration to be altered without first telling the president or the administrator. Buildings in Port de Pollença usually have a set spot: the flat roof, a patio or the balcony inside the railing. We send you the datasheet with size and noise level.

Can the outdoor unit be heard from the neighbour's balcony in Port de Pollença?

It depends on the unit and the installation. The Balearic noise pollution act (Law 1/2007, arts. 9 and 11) and the municipal bylaw set the limits, and each datasheet declares its noise: the General ASEH09KJCAL outdoor unit, for example, 44 dB(A) in heating. In Port de Pollença, with nights spent with the windows open, we take care over the bracket, which is what passes on most vibration.

How often should air conditioning by the sea in Port de Pollença be serviced?

Whichever is stricter, the regulations or your unit's manual. The RITE (IT.3, table 3.1) requires a service every 4 years in homes and every 2 in other uses for units of up to 12 kW; Regulation (EU) 2024/573 (art. 5) adds the leak checks if the gas charge requires them. In Port de Pollença, with salt and use in both seasons, it's best not to stretch it.

Do I have to replace my old air conditioner in Port de Pollença because of the F-gas regulation?

No. Regulation (EU) 2024/573 (art. 11 and annex IV) restricts the sale of new equipment with high global-warming gases, but the one you already have in Port de Pollença can keep running and be repaired. New units use R32, with a global warming potential of 675. Replacing it pays when the breakdown is expensive or when a current inverter, with a SEER of 9.2 for example, saves enough.
