Replacing the air conditioning in an apartment in the Port
In Alcúdia town the conversation is about the walls and the old town. Here it's buildings from the tourism years, with units that have been through many summers of salt.
The old unit: what can be reused and what can't
When replacing an old split, the first thing is the gas: new units run on R32 and the circuit is built for that gas. The old pipework is only reused if its diameter and condition suit the new unit and it is cleaned; otherwise it is replaced. The gas in the old unit is recovered by certified personnel (RD 115/2017, art. 3), not released.
One multi-split instead of three outdoor units
In an apartment with two bedrooms and a living room, three outdoor units on the terrace mean noise, space and three permissions from the owners' association. A multi-split has a single outdoor unit for several indoor units. The façade is a common element: Spain's Horizontal Property Act (art. 7.1) requires that the external configuration isn't altered and that notice is given first.
The water from the air
By the sea, a split takes a lot of water out of the air. If the drain has no fall, it drips onto the terrace below. We run it to a drain or, if there isn't one nearby, fit a condensate pump, and test it before we leave.

Average humidity in July and August is around 62-65 % in AEMET's Palma airport series (1981-2010). The RITE (IT 1.1.4.1.2) takes 45-60 % indoor humidity for summer. With dry air, the 26 °C recommended by IDAE, Spain's energy agency, is comfortable, and each degree you don't ask of the machine saves around 7 %.

The price of an installed split depends on capacity, pipe length, access to the outdoor unit, electrical work and brand: we give you a fixed price from your photos and details, itemised.
Capacity is calculated from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1). An air-to-air unit in a home is not covered by FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026); for hot water, heating and cooling with a grant, see heat pumps in Port d'Alcúdia.
Servicing: whatever the RITE sets (IT.3, table 3.1) or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's. By the sea, better not to stretch it.

Do I have to replace the old air conditioner in my flat in Port d'Alcúdia?
