Which type of climate control to choose
Not every home needs the same thing. These are the options we fit in Mallorca, from the simplest to the most complete, so you can choose with confidence.
Split unit
One unit outside, one inside, to cool and heat a single room. It's the cheapest and quickest to put in, ideal for a bedroom or the living room. With a heat pump you get cooling in summer and heating in winter.
Multi-split
Several indoor units running off a single outdoor one. You climate several rooms without covering the façade in machines, and control each one separately. Perfect for flats and homes with a few rooms.
Ducted air conditioning
The unit tucks away in the false ceiling and pushes air through the whole house via grilles. It's the most even and discreet option: you barely see it, and it climates the entire home uniformly, with nothing hanging on the walls.
Water-based climate control and underfloor systems
The comfiest, most efficient option: underfloor heating-cooling and fan coils running off an aerothermal heat pump. Cosy warmth in winter, gentle cooling in summer and hot water — all from one system and barely using a thing.

In the photo, a real underfloor climate control job we did ourselves: the manifolds send water at just the right temperature around the whole house — even warmth in winter, a cool floor in summer — all from an aerothermal heat pump.
Unlike a standard air-con setup, this one doesn't blow draughts or make noise, and it keeps every room at the same comfortable temperature. We hand it over installed and legalised with the authority under RITE, with its paperwork and warranty.

Frequently asked questions about climate control
Which type of air conditioning is right for me?
For one or two rooms in Mallorca, a split or multi-split may avoid ductwork; for a complete home, a ducted system can distribute air through ceiling grilles. We compare heat load, 2.5-7 kW class options, noise, zoning and available space before specifying a system. Daitsu WC5/WC6 users can also consult all seven error-code tables from the official manual on JSL's dedicated guide.
How much does it cost to install air conditioning in Mallorca?
In Mallorca, an indicative installed split range of 700-1,200 € varies with output, pipe length, access, electrical work and brand. Multi-split and ducted systems depend on room count, zoning and building work. JSL provides an itemised quote after the survey, so the price and exclusions are clear before work starts.
How often does air conditioning need servicing?
In Mallorca we recommend one service a year, ideally before summer, while the Spanish RITE table 3.1 sets legal minimums by power and use: up to 12 kW, every 4 years in dwellings and every 2 in other uses; 12-70 kW, every 2 years in dwellings and annually otherwise; above 70 kW, monthly. Seafront salt exposure may justify shorter intervals.
Do you do gas recharges and equipment repair?
Yes. In Mallorca JSL diagnoses and repairs air-conditioning equipment across brands, subject to parts and refrigerant availability. A low charge is not corrected by simply topping up: EU Regulation 2024/573 requires precautions against emissions and repair without undue delay when an F-gas leak is found. We leak-test, identify the cause and quote before charging refrigerant. Source: Regulation (EU) 2024/573.
What is the difference between split, multi-split and ducted?
A single split links 1 outdoor unit to 1 indoor unit; a multi-split links one outdoor unit to several indoor units; ducted air uses a concealed indoor unit and ceiling grilles. In Mallorca we choose between them after checking room loads, façade space, false ceilings, condensate drainage and zoning.
Can climate control also run on water and underfloor systems?
Yes. A Mallorca home can use a heat pump with hydronic underfloor heating, commonly around 35-40 °C flow temperature, for winter and fan coils for cooling. Whether that is preferable to direct-expansion air conditioning depends on insulation, floor build-up, humidity control, usage and budget; JSL calculates both options.
Do air conditioning units use a lot of electricity?
Consumption depends on output, setpoint, insulation and operating hours. As product examples, the Daitsu 2024-25 catalogue declares EER 3.97 in cooling, COP up to 4.24 in heating and seasonal SCOP 3.72 for specified models; those figures are not a bill guarantee. Solar self-consumption can cover part of daytime use in Mallorca, but the electricity is not free and the covered share depends on PV production and demand.
