At 400 metres, air conditioning in Valldemossa isn't just for July: a split is a heat pump and heats in winter. We fit splits and ducted units in stone houses and fincas across the municipality. We are Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered installer also certified for F-gases: we don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
Valldemossa is in climate zone C3 of the Spanish Building Code (above 250 m in Mallorca, CTE DB-HE annex B), with more winter than the coast. An air conditioner with a heat pump works here all year round.
An inverter split heats on very little electricity and does it in minutes, which is just what a house used now and then, or a room the stove doesn't reach, needs. For example, the General ASEH09KJCAL declares heating operation down to −20 °C.
In a quiet village, an outdoor unit is heard at night. We choose a unit with a low declared noise level (the same General gives 44 dB(A) outdoors in heating mode), place it away from the neighbours' windows and on anti-vibration mounts, within the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007.
On a finca with separate rooms, the practical answer is usually one split per room or a multi-split with the outdoor unit hidden behind a wall. With wifi, you switch it on from your phone before you arrive.
In numbers
We fit inverter units because they adjust the compressor's speed to what the room needs instead of starting and stopping, and start-ups are what use the most. As a heat pump, a split gives several times more heat than the electricity it uses; compared with an electric heater or a bottled-gas stove, that's where the winter saving is.
In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit defrosts now and then: General's manual for the ASEH09KJCAL says it can take up to 15 minutes, and that's normal. In summer IDAE recommends 26 °C and puts the saving at 7 % per degree; in winter, 21 °C. We calculate the output from the thermal loads, as the RITE requires.
How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we come.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires, and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
Yes. A split is an air-to-air heat pump and heats on far less electricity than an electric heater. Valldemossa is in climate zone C3 of the Spanish Building Code, with more winter than Palma, but far from the limit of units such as the General ASEH09KJCAL, which declares heating operation down to −20 °C.
It's defrosting. In cold, damp weather the outdoor coil frosts up and the unit reverses its cycle for a few minutes to clear it; General's manual for the ASEH09KJCAL says this can last up to 15 minutes. It's normal, not a fault.
It shouldn't, if it's chosen and placed well. We look for a unit with a low declared noise level (for example, 44 dB(A) for the General ASEH09KJCAL outdoor unit in heating), put it away from the neighbours' windows and on anti-vibration mounts. The limits are set by the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007.
Usually, yes, but with more care. If the building is listed, the work needs a licence and the Town Council may require the outdoor unit not to be visible. We look for a courtyard, a roof or a hidden corner and run the pipes inside. We check it before quoting.
No. EU Regulation 2024/573 restricts the gases in new units being sold, but the one you have can keep running and be repaired. The units we fit today use R32, with a global warming potential of 675. Replacing it pays when the repair isn't worth it or the saving of a modern inverter justifies it.
Whichever is stricter, the regulations or the unit's manual. The RITE (IT.3, table 3.1) sets as a minimum, in homes and up to 12 kW, a service every 4 years; the manufacturer also asks for the filters to be cleaned every few weeks. If the unit runs all year, cooling and heating, it's best not to stretch it.
