Heat pumps · Valldemossa

Heat pumps in Valldemossa,
built for a mountain winter.

We are Joaquín and Juan. In Valldemossa we install air-to-water heat pumps in stone village houses and on fincas across the municipality. At 400 metres the winter is real, and one heat pump gives you heating, hot water and, in summer, cooling. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer: from the study to legalisation and the grant, we handle it. We don't subcontract anyone.

Valldemossa: winter counts more than on the coast

The Spanish Building Code divides Mallorca by altitude: up to 250 m is climate zone B3, like Palma; above that, C3, with a harsher winter (CTE DB-HE, annex B). Valldemossa, at around 400 m, is in C3. Here, heating comes first.

Stone houses that hold heat

Thick stone walls store heat. With a heat pump working gently for long hours, the house stays evenly warm instead of swinging up and down. Radiators sized for low temperature or, if you renovate, underfloor heating: both heat well with a heat pump.

Fincas across the municipality

If the finca heats with oil, bottled gas or firewood, the heat pump replaces the boiler, supplies hot water to the whole house and can be paired with solar panels so part of its electricity comes from the sun. In the Natural Area, the outdoor unit goes where it's least visible.

Holiday lets and second homes

A house used now and then needs to warm up fast when you arrive and use nothing when nobody is there. The heat pump is programmed and controlled from your phone, and hot water is made only when needed.

In numbers

Where a heat pump saves in Valldemossa

A heat pump moves heat from the air instead of burning fuel. For example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid has a seasonal SCOP of 3.72 (official Daitsu catalogue 2024-25): on average, about 3.7 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity. In a C3 zone, with more heating hours than the coast, that difference shows more on the bill. We work with every brand; the model is chosen with your house in front of us.

The output doesn't come from a table: it's calculated from the house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires, and at 400 m the winter outdoor temperature counts. And the thermostat: according to IDAE, each extra degree raises consumption by around 7 %; 21 °C is comfortable and bedrooms need only 15-17 °C.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Valldemossa

For a Valldemossa house leaving heating oil behind, the open grant is FACTOR 2026: 70 % of the cost for a private individual, worked out on a module of up to €1,000/kWt of heating output, with €450/kWt added if the job includes new emitters or distribution. The ceiling is €25,000 per installation and applications are handled in order of arrival until 28 February 2027. The heat pump must exceed an SPF of 2.5; air-to-air units in homes don't qualify, and you need a home address in the Balearic Islands.

If the work improves the energy efficiency of your main home, or of a home you let, and is certified, the energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

If you'd like solar panels too, see our page on solar panels in Valldemossa.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Valldemossa, in 3 steps

1

Winter loads

From photos, floor areas and what you spend today on oil, bottled gas or firewood, we size the unit from the house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires, for a mountain winter.

2

Fitting without touching the stone

We choose the pipe route that needs the least building work, put the outdoor unit where it shows least and leave the system legalised under the RITE. Servicing: as the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as the manufacturer says.

3

The FACTOR grant

With your authorisation we file and justify the FACTOR 2026 application; you sign and the grant is paid into your account.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Valldemossa

Is Valldemossa colder than Palma as far as heating goes?

Yes, and the Spanish Building Code says so: in Mallorca, up to 250 m altitude is climate zone B3 and above that C3, with a harsher winter (CTE DB-HE, annex B). Valldemossa is at around 400 m, in C3. That's why the heat pump's output is calculated from your house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires, rather than copied from a house on the coast.

Does a heat pump perform in the mountain cold?

Yes. Modern heat pumps keep heating with outdoor temperatures below freezing, and Valldemossa's winter is cool, not extreme. In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit defrosts now and then: that's normal. What helps performance most is working with low-temperature water, through underfloor heating or well-sized radiators.

I have a stone house in Valldemossa with a wood stove: what would a heat pump give me?

Heat throughout the house at once, not just next to the stove, hot water from the same unit and cooling in summer through fan coils or ducts. Stone walls hold heat, so the heat pump can run for long hours at low output, which is where it performs best. The stove can stay as a back-up.

Can I have underfloor heating and cool through the floor as well?

Underfloor heating is for heating, and it works very well with a heat pump. Cooling is not done through the floor: in Mallorca, with the humidity, a cold floor condenses. For summer we fit fan coils or ducts connected to the same heat pump.

I live in Germany or the UK and my Valldemossa house is a holiday home: can I apply for FACTOR for a heat pump?

It depends on your registered address. FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026) requires private individuals to have a home address in the Balearic Islands, so with a holiday home you may not qualify. Tell us your situation before deciding: a heat pump pays off anyway through what it saves against heating oil, and if you do qualify the grant is 70 %, up to €25,000 per installation.

My finca is in the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area: where does the outdoor unit go?

Where it's least visible and won't bother anyone with noise: behind a wall, in a courtyard or next to an outbuilding. In the Natural Area its Natural Resources Management Plan applies (Decree 19/2007, amended in 2023), as well as Valldemossa's planning rules; we check them before fixing the spot.
