Heat pumps · Bunyola

Heat pumps in Bunyola,
sized by altitude.

We are Joaquín and Juan. In Bunyola, Palmanyola and Orient we install air-to-water heat pumps: one heat pump for heating, hot water and cooling. From the plain to the Orient valley there is a climb of more than 300 metres, and that changes the calculation. We are a RITE-registered heating and cooling installer (RITE = Spain's building services regulations): from the study to legalisation and the grant. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area

From the plain to the mountains: two climate zones

The Spanish Building Code classifies Mallorca by altitude: climate zone B3 up to 250 m and C3 above that (CTE DB-HE, Annex B). The municipality of Bunyola has both. A house in Palmanyola is not calculated the same way as one in Orient.

Palmanyola

On the plain, well below 250 m: zone B3, like Palma. Villas with a garden and room for the outdoor unit. Here summer cooling matters as much as heating, and the same heat pump gives both, with fan coils or ducts for cooling.

Bunyola village

The village climbs the hillside and, at 214 m according to AEMET, stays just under the 250 m line. Stone houses, sloping streets and little room outside: the outdoor unit goes on a terrace or in a courtyard, and inside we find a space for the hot water cylinder.

Orient and the mountain fincas

Orient, at over 400 m, is zone C3: more heating hours and cold nights. In a stone mountain house, with a heat pump working gently for many hours, the wall stores the heat. If the finca heats with firewood or heating oil, the stove can stay as backup.

Where a heat pump saves in Bunyola

The more heating hours there are, the more the machine's efficiency shows. A boiler delivers what it burns; a heat pump, several times the electricity it uses. For example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid declares a SCOP of 3.72 in the official Daitsu catalogue 2024-25. It is an example: we work with every brand and choose with your house in front of us.

The output doesn't come from a table but from the house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires, with the winter outdoor temperature for its altitude. And the thermostat: IDAE puts consumption at around 7% more for each extra degree and sets comfort at 21 °C.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Bunyola

A heat pump for a home qualifies for FACTOR 2026: 70% for private individuals, worked out on a maximum of €1,000/kWt of the heat pump and a further €450/kWt if there is new distribution, with a limit of €25,000 per installation. Open until 28 February 2027 or until the funds run out. It asks for an SPF above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands; air-to-air units in homes don't qualify.

Bunyola's tax bylaws have no rebates for energy. If you'd like solar panels too, see solar panels in Bunyola.

If the work improves the home's efficiency and is certified, the energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Bunyola, in 3 steps

1

Where the house is

With the location, the floor areas and your current heating we calculate the output from the house's thermal loads and the winter temperature for its altitude, as the RITE requires.

2

Plant room and emitters

We install the heat pump, the hydraulic module and the cylinder, and connect them to radiators, underfloor heating or fan coils. We legalise under the RITE. Servicing: as the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as the manufacturer says.

3

The grant

With your authorisation we file and justify FACTOR 2026; you sign and the grant is paid into your account.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Bunyola

Is Bunyola climate zone B3 or C3?

Both, depending on the settlement. The Spanish Building Code (CTE DB-HE, Annex B) puts places in the Balearic Islands up to 250 m altitude in B3 and those higher up in C3. Palmanyola and Bunyola village (214 m according to AEMET) are below that; Orient, at over 400 m, is C3. That's why the output is calculated from each house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires.

I have a stone house in Orient: can a heat pump cope with the winter?

Yes. Orient is in climate zone C3, with more winter than the coast, but a long way from the cold these machines are built for. What helps most is working with low-temperature water, with underfloor heating or properly sized radiators, and letting the stone wall store the heat. The outdoor unit defrosting in cold, damp weather is normal. The Spanish Building Code puts Balearic localities above 250 m in zone C3 (CTE DB-HE, Annex B).

What goes in the plant room of a heat pump system?

The hydraulic module with its controls, the hot water cylinder, sometimes a buffer tank, the expansion vessel, the circulation pumps and the insulated pipework. It fits in a utility room or in the space left by the old boiler. In a house in Bunyola village, where room is tight, we work out beforehand where it goes. The minimum maintenance of all of it is set by the RITE.

How much does FACTOR 2026 pay for a heat pump in Bunyola?

70% for a private individual, with a module of up to €1,000/kWt of the heat pump (plus €450/kWt with new distribution) and a maximum of €25,000 per installation (BOIB no. 83 of 2 July 2026). The deadline is 28 February 2027. You need a home address in the Balearic Islands and an SPF above 2.5.

Can I cool a villa in Palmanyola with the same heat pump?

Yes: with fan coils or ducts connected to the heat pump. Underfloor heating is used for heating; cooling is never done through the floor, because in Mallorca the humidity makes a cold floor run with condensation. In summer, IDAE recommends 26 °C and puts consumption at around 7% more for each degree lower.

My finca is in the Natural Area: where does the outdoor unit go?

Where it is least seen and least heard: behind a wall, in a courtyard or next to an outbuilding. In the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (Paraje Natural), its Natural Resources Management Plan applies (Decree 19/2007, amended in 2023), as well as Bunyola's planning rules. We check it before fixing the spot.
