We are Joaquín and Juan, the two partners behind JSL, a RITE-certified thermal installer. In Santa Maria, from the old village core to the country estates below the Tramuntana and the newer developments, we plan each heat pump around how you actually live: when the house is empty, when you get back and when it pays to heat the water. We do not subcontract anything.

Your day in Santa Maria
If your mornings start on the Ma-13 or on the Inca train, which stops right in the village, your home may sit empty for eight or ten hours. Heating every room for nobody wastes energy; letting it go cold and then running the unit flat out in the evening is no better. The sweet spot is a proper schedule.
Spain's energy agency, the IDAE, puts the effect of each degree on the thermostat at roughly 7% of heating and cooling consumption. So rather than on and off, we set two or three levels a day: a lower one while you are out, a comfort setting (the IDAE considers 19-21 °C enough) shortly before you arrive, and a night-time one, when 15-17 °C is plenty in bedrooms.
A heated slab is slow. It takes hours to warm up and hours to cool down, so you do not switch it off when you leave: you hold a moderate set-point and programme the rise well in advance. The upside is that it runs on low-temperature water, exactly where a heat pump is at its most efficient.
These emitters react within minutes, so a deeper daytime set-back works, followed by a short boost before you get home, adjustable from your phone if your plans change.
A heat pump performs better the milder the outdoor air. Heating the cylinder in the early afternoon instead of the small hours helps, and if you have solar panels it matches their output too. More on that under solar panels in Santa Maria del Camí.
The local climate
Santa Maria sits in the Raiguer, around 130 metres above sea level, with the Serra de Tramuntana closing off the municipality to the north and the Coanegra stream running down towards the Bay of Palma. The European Commission's PVGIS typical meteorological year for the village gives a January average of 10.4 °C and February, the coldest month, 9.9 °C; from December to February, 10.9 °C.
That is comfortable territory for an air-to-water system. For example, Daitsu states in its catalogue that the Multi-Hybrid keeps working down to −15 °C outside; here the unit spends nearly all winter far from that limit, and the further away it is, the less electricity it needs for each kWh of heat.
A typical year is not the coldest night, though. Still nights in houses up towards the mountains or in low spots on the plain can drop well below the average. Output is never chosen from a mean: it comes from your home's heat-load calculation and the design outdoor conditions, as the RITE sets out. Too big costs more and cycles; too small falls short.
Climate: PVGIS-TMY, European Commission (JRC), point 39.650 N 2.774 E, accessed on 4 October 2026. Unit quoted as an example: official Daitsu 2024-25 catalogue.
Every house is different
Terraced houses with thick stone walls that hold heat, and small patios. We look for a spot for the outdoor unit in the back patio or on the roof, away from the neighbours' windows; if the façade is the only option, the Ajuntament is consulted first. For example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid AOHD 40 lists a sound pressure of 55 dB(A), a figure that matters when choosing a place in an enclosed courtyard.
Out among the almond trees and the Binissalem DO vineyards, many houses still run an oil boiler, a tank and radiators. The heat pump replaces the boiler for heating and hot water. If the radiators were sized for very hot water, a room or two may need a larger emitter; the room-by-room calculation shows it, and big houses are usually best split into zones.
In semi-detached houses and villas such as those in Son Bieló or Can Borralló, the sensible route is to design underfloor heating from the start, size the hot-water cylinder for the family who will live there and leave space and conduits ready for solar.
Underfloor heating only heats. In summer the same unit drives fan coils or ducts (or you add air conditioning). Cooling through the floor exists, but we don’t offer it in Mallorca: with the humidity here, a cold floor condenses.
Balearic grant
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded. Full details on our grants page.
In Santa Maria the property-tax (IBI) discount is for photovoltaics (single-family homes, 30% for 3 years); the bylaw offers nothing for a heat pump.
When we finish
An installation registered with the Industry department under the RITE, with the certificate we sign as the thermal installer, and a schedule set up together with you: when you leave, when you return, the temperature for each part of the day and how to change it from your phone.
Servicing as often as the RITE requires or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as often as the manufacturer says. We work with every brand and choose the unit for your house; the full technical guide is at heat pumps in Mallorca.
To get started, send us photos of your current boiler or system, where the unit could go and the size of the house. We reply within 24-48 hours on working days.

What people in Santa Maria ask us
In a Santa Maria home with underfloor heating, turn it down rather than off: the slab takes hours to recover and the unit would end up working flat out just as you get in. With radiators or fan coils you can set it lower. According to the IDAE, each degree lower saves around 7% of heating energy, and 15-17 °C is enough in bedrooms at night.
Usually in the back patio or on the roof, away from neighbours' windows and on anti-vibration mounts. If the façade is the only place, the Ajuntament de Santa Maria del Camí is consulted first. As a datasheet reference, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid AOHD 40, for example, lists 55 dB(A).
Yes, provided it is sized for that spot. The PVGIS typical year for Santa Maria gives a February average of 9.9 °C, and units such as the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid run down to −15 °C, but output is set from the heat load and the design outdoor conditions required by the RITE, not from an average.
On many Mallorcan fincas, yes. The question is water temperature: if they were sized for very hot water, one or two rooms may fall short at the temperature where a heat pump runs efficiently. A room-by-room calculation shows where, and the emitter is enlarged there instead of replacing everything. As a reference, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid lists an SCOP of 3.72 at medium temperature.
Yes, through fan coils, ducts or split units driven by the same heat pump; for summer the IDAE recommends 26 °C or higher. Not through the underfloor pipes. Cooling through the floor exists, but we don’t offer it in Mallorca: with the humidity here, a cold floor condenses.
FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2 July 2026) covers 70% of the module, but requires individual applicants to have their home address in the Balearic Islands. If you are resident elsewhere, we check this before you count on the grant.
The Santa Maria del Camí IBI bylaw (art. 3.3, BOIB no. 92 of 16 July 2022) gives single-family homes that install photovoltaics 30% off for 3 years. There is no discount in the bylaw for a heat pump on its own.
For a house in Santa Maria, as often as the RITE requires for the installation or, if the manufacturer of your unit asks for more, as often as the manufacturer says. Any work on a refrigerant circuit is done under our F-gas certification.
