Solar panels in Santa Maria del Camí, with the mountains behind you.

We’re Joaquín and Juan, the two partners behind JSL Mallorca. Santa Maria del Camí looks south from the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, and for solar panels that’s good news: the mountains are behind you. We design, fit and legalise self-consumption as an authorised low-voltage installer, and help you apply for the property-tax rebate the town hall offers. No subcontractors.

The horizon

The mountains are to the north, the sun to the south

From Santa Maria del Camí the Serra de Tramuntana looks close, so it’s fair to ask whether it steals sunlight. We worked it out with PVGIS, which draws the horizon from the real terrain: the highest point, 4.6º, lies to the north-north-west, and due north it’s about 3.5º. Between east, south and west, where the sun spends nearly all year, it stays below 2.5º.

So the village produces like open flat land: a kWp facing south at 35º, the optimum PVGIS gives for Santa Maria, generates 1,572 kWh a year, with 105 in January and 162 in July. The shading that does matter is close by: the house next door, a pine, your own chimney. We check those from photos or on a visit.

Data from PVGIS, European Commission (1 kWp, 14 % losses), checked on 9 Oct 2026 for the centre of Santa Maria del Camí.

Which tilt

Living here all year? Tilt them steeper

The tilt depends on when you use power. In Santa Maria del Camí, PVGIS gives these figures per kWp:

  • South, 35º: 1,572 kWh a year; 99 in December and 471 from June to August.
  • South, 15º: 1,493 kWh a year; 75 in December and 500 in summer.
  • East or west, 15º: about 1,320 kWh a year and barely 50 in December.

If it’s your main home and winter heating is electric or a heat pump, December and January sun is what you want: at 35º you produce 32 % more in December than at 15º. If your big load is July air conditioning, a flatter angle gives a little more in summer. We set it from your bill, not a fixed rule.

And if evening and night use is high, a battery stores the midday surplus. We show you how much energy would go through it with your own data before you decide.

Every roof

From the village roof to the winery shed

Village houses

In the old centre, clay-tiled roofs and terraced houses with a single usable slope are the norm. We fix with hooks that slip under the tiles without breaking them and run the cable down inside. On a flat roof terrace, a ballasted frame with no holes in the waterproofing.

Villas and fincas on the outskirts

Outside the centre there’s usually room to pick the best slope, or to put panels on a pergola or the ground, and often a well or pool pump that runs by day. If there’s an electric car too, the charger can be timed for sunny hours.

Wineries and sheds

A winery uses electricity by day, in working hours. On metal roofs we use fixings for sandwich or trapezoidal panels, and check the building’s switchboard first.

Paperwork in order

The IBI rebate, legalisation and grants

Santa Maria del Camí town hall cuts IBI property tax by 30 % for 3 years on a single dwelling that installs photovoltaics (art. 3.3 of the bylaw, BOIB no. 92, 16 July 2022). The ICIO building tax has no rebate in this municipality. The IBI rebate must be applied for, and we prepare any technical papers they ask for.

The system is legalised as self-consumption under Royal Decree 244/2019, with the electrical certificate we sign as an authorised low-voltage installer; off-grid systems fall under ITC-BT-40.

  • FOTOPAR: the next call opens on 26 January 2027 and closes on 30 April or when funds run out; €600/kWp up to 5 kWp and €420/kWh for batteries (BOIB no. 171 of 2025). You apply before work starts, and it requires Balearic domicile.
  • Income tax: if the system is finished and paid for in 2026, with its electrical certificate, additional provision 62 of the Spanish income tax law (IRPF) allows a 10 % deduction, up to €500. You claim it in your own return.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; the administration decides. More in solar grants and in our guide to solar panels in Mallorca.

Questions from Santa Maria del Camí

Your questions about solar panels in Santa Maria del Camí

Does the Serra de Tramuntana block sunlight for panels in Santa Maria del Camí?

Hardly at all. According to the horizon PVGIS calculates from the terrain, the mountains rise to 4.6º at most, to the north-north-west, where the winter sun never goes; to the south the horizon of Santa Maria del Camí stays under 2.5º. That’s why a kWp facing south at 35º yields 1,572 kWh a year.

What IBI rebate does Santa Maria del Camí town hall give for solar panels?

30 % off IBI for 3 years for a single dwelling with photovoltaics, under art. 3.3 of its bylaw (BOIB no. 92, 16 July 2022). The ICIO building tax has no rebate in Santa Maria del Camí. The IBI rebate has to be applied for.

I live in Santa Maria del Camí all year and have a heat pump. What tilt suits me?

Around 35º, the PVGIS optimum for Santa Maria del Camí: in December it gives 99 kWh per kWp against 75 at 15º, 32 % more just when the heating is working. If your big load were July air conditioning, a flatter angle would give slightly more in summer.

My roof faces east and west. Is it any good for panels in Santa Maria del Camí?

It works, as long as you know what it gives: at a 15º pitch each kWp produces about 1,320 kWh a year in Santa Maria del Camí, according to PVGIS, around 84 % of a south slope at 35º. It spreads output between morning and afternoon, but in December drops to about 50 kWh.

I run a winery in Santa Maria del Camí. Does self-consumption pay?

It usually fits well, because a winery uses power by day in working hours, while the panels produce, and in Santa Maria del Camí a kWp facing south at 35º gives 1,572 kWh a year. We check the switchboard and the roof first; metal roofs take fixings for sandwich or trapezoidal panels.

What grants are there for solar in Santa Maria del Camí in 2026 and 2027?

On income tax, additional provision 62 of IRPF allows a 10 % deduction (up to €500) if the system is finished and paid for in 2026. FOTOPAR opens on 26 January 2027 with €600/kWp up to 5 kWp and €420/kWh for batteries, applied for before work starts. And in Santa Maria del Camí, IBI is cut by 30 % for 3 years.
