Solar panels in Mallorca
How self-consumption, batteries and payback work, in detail.
See the full guide →Solar panels · Alaró
In Alaró we install solar panels and self-consumption, with or without batteries, on the stone houses in the village and on the fincas that climb towards the mountains. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: study, installation, legalisation and the grant paperwork, with no middlemen.

Your area
Alaró lies at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, beneath the Puig d'Alaró and the Puig de s'Alcadena. It looks like a shady spot and it isn't: the mountains are to the north of the village and the sun travels across the south, over the Raiguer plain.
Clay-tiled roofs, two pitches and narrow streets. The panels go flush with the tiles on the pitch that faces south, and the inverter inside the house. If the building is listed, a building licence is needed: we check that before drawing anything.
Along the Orient road and up towards the castle, the fincas are inside the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO Cultural Landscape since 2011 and, for the most part, a Natural Area (Paraje Natural) with its own Natural Resources Management Plan (Decree 19/2007). There we first look at what that plan and Alaró's planning rules allow, and in the enclosed valleys we run PVGIS with the house's coordinates, because there the terrain does count.
Towards Consell and Binissalem the land opens out: almond trees, vineyards and houses with room to spare. The panels can go on the roof or on the ground, and if there is a well, the pump is programmed for the sunny hours.
In numbers
According to PVGIS, the European Commission's tool (query of 7 Oct 2026, 35° facing south, 14% losses), in the village of Alaró each installed kWp gives about 1,534 kWh a year. Palma gives 1,598: 4% more.
PVGIS lets you run the numbers with and without the terrain. Without mountains, Alaró would give 1,538 kWh: the range takes less than 0.5% a year. December gives 95 kWh per kWp, against 99 in Palma; July, 161.
A 3 kWp home system comes to around 4,600 kWh a year. The saving is in what you use while you produce: that's why we start with your bill, not with the roof.
Grants
ICIO: Alaró's construction tax bylaw (art. 4.2.b, BOIB no. 17 of 2022) gives a 50% rebate on the items of the solar installation. You apply for it when the works are processed. Alaró's property tax (IBI) bylaw (BOIB no. 84 of 2025) has no rebate for solar energy.
FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call runs from 26 January to 30 April 2027, or until the funds run out, with €600/kWp for systems of up to 5 kWp and €420/kWh for batteries, and you must apply before work starts. It requires a home address in the Balearic Islands. For batteries, FACTOR 2026 is open (45%, until 28 February 2027); it does not cover the panels of a private individual.
If the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the self-consumption income-tax deduction (additional provision 62) is 10%, up to €500. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
With an electricity bill, photos and the exact location we run PVGIS with the terrain around your house and work out what share of your consumption the panels cover.
We check whether the house is listed or the finca is in the Natural Area (Paraje Natural), install on a frame calculated for wind and legalise the self-consumption (RD 244/2019).
We prepare the technical documents for Alaró's ICIO rebate and, with your authorisation, file whichever grant is open.
Common questions
In the village, hardly any. According to the typical year calculated by PVGIS, the European Commission's tool that takes the terrain into account, each kWp in Alaró gives about 1,534 kWh a year; without mountains it would give 1,538. That is less than 0.5%, because the Puig d'Alaró and the range are to the north and the sun travels across the south. On the fincas in the mountain valleys it does have to be checked house by house.
About 1,534 kWh per kWp a year according to the typical year calculated by PVGIS (35° facing south, 14% losses), 4% less than in Palma (1,598). In December it gives 95 kWh per kWp and in July 161. A 3 kWp system comes to around 4,600 kWh a year.
On the construction tax, yes: Alaró's ICIO bylaw (art. 4.2.b, BOIB no. 17 of 2022) gives a 50% rebate on the solar items. On the property tax (IBI), no: Alaró's bylaw (BOIB no. 84 of 2025) has no rebate for solar energy. The self-consumption income-tax deduction may also apply if the system is paid for and finished in 2026.
The Serra de Tramuntana has been a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape since 2011 and much of it is a Natural Area (Paraje Natural), with a Natural Resources Management Plan (Decree 19/2007, amended by Decree 2/2023). The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 allows self-consumption on lawful buildings on rural land. What fits on your plot we go through with Alaró town hall and with your architect or engineer.
Normally a prior notification is enough: in the Balearic Islands, panels on a roof do not need a building licence (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e), unless the building is an asset of cultural interest (BIC) or is listed, the structure is affected or an environmental assessment is required. Alaró's municipal catalogue protects, among others, elements of the Castell, Solleric and Bànyols: we look it up before quoting.
We do. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: we sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption under RD 244/2019 with the Balearic Government. With those papers you apply for the ICIO rebate and the grants.
