In a stone house in Alaró, with arches, beams and walls half a metre thick, the hard part isn't cooling: it's keeping the installation out of sight. We fit ducted systems with linear grilles and well-placed splits. We are Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered heating and cooling installer (RITE = Spain's building services regulations) and F-gas certified: we don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
Alaró has a stone-built centre, narrow streets and houses with a courtyard or back yard behind. And because of its altitude, on the edge of 250 m, air conditioning works in summer and in winter too, as heating.
If the house is being renovated and there is a corridor or a hallway with a false ceiling, a ducted unit distributes the air to the rooms and the only thing you see is a linear grille high up on the wall. The stone arches and the beams stay clean.
With no building work, one split per room, placed where it doesn't spoil the good wall: above a door, on a plain stretch of wall, with the pipe going out to the courtyard. We look for the shortest route to the outdoor unit.
In a narrow street, a unit on the façade is seen and heard. It goes in the courtyard, the back yard or on the roof. Before hanging anything on a façade we check whether the house is listed and what the town hall requires.
In numbers
We fit inverter units because the compressor slows down once the room is at temperature, instead of starting and stopping; start-ups are what use the most. With ducts you can also zone: each room with its own thermostat, and only the one in use is cooled.
A stone wall takes time to heat up: with the shutters down at midday and the air conditioning at 26 °C, as IDAE recommends, the house holds with very little. Each degree lower raises consumption by around 7%. We calculate the output from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires.
How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we come.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires, and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
Yes, if there is somewhere to hide the unit: a false ceiling in the corridor, the bathroom or a hallway. From there the air reaches each room through a linear grille. The output is calculated from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires. If there is no ceiling for it, it is solved with splits. In a village house in Alaró with exposed beams, we first look at where that ceiling can go.
It means putting a thermostat and a damper in each room of a ducted system, so you only cool the ones in use. The saving depends on how the house is used; the sure figure is IDAE's: each degree of difference on the controller means around 7% of consumption, and in summer it recommends 26 °C. In a house in Alaró that is only used at times, switching off the empty rooms is what you notice most.
Two things have to be checked first: whether the house is listed and what Alaró's planning rules say for that street. The usual thing in the old centre is to take it to the courtyard or the roof, where it can't be seen. Noise has its limits in the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007.
Yes. An air conditioning unit is a heat pump and heats on far less electricity than an electric radiator. Alaró is on the edge of the 250 m that separate climate zones B3 and C3 of the Spanish Building Code, so it does get used in winter. IDAE recommends 21 °C.
R32, with a global warming potential of 675. Regulation (EU) 2024/573 is phasing out the higher-impact gases in new units; the air conditioning you already have can keep running and be repaired. We handle the circuit with our F-gas certification (RD 115/2017). In a house in Alaró with an old unit, we look at it before proposing a replacement.
As the regulations set or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as the manufacturer says. The RITE (IT.3, table 3.1) sets as a minimum one service every 4 years in homes for units of up to 12 kW and every 2 years in other uses. The filters of the ducted unit are cleaned several times a year. In Alaró, with the dust from the fields in summer, it is worth checking them before the season.
