Solar panels · Bunyola

Solar panels in Bunyola,
Palmanyola and Orient.

The municipality of Bunyola runs from the plain up into the mountains, and the sun doesn't reach every part of it the same way. We install solar panels and self-consumption, with or without batteries, in the village, in the villas of Palmanyola and on the fincas of Orient. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: a study that takes in the terrain around your house, installation, legalisation and the grant paperwork.

Your area

One municipality, three suns

Bunyola sits at the gateway to the Serra de Tramuntana, on the road from Palma to Sóller. We ran PVGIS, which takes the mountains on the horizon into account, for its three settlements, and got three different results.

Palmanyola: like Palma

On the plain, before you reach the village, Palmanyola is an estate of houses with gardens. PVGIS gives about 1,557 kWh per kWp a year, 3% less than in Palma (1,598), and 94 kWh in December. Flat and pitched roofs that face the right way: the simplest case.

Bunyola village: the mountains show in winter

The village, stepped up the hillside, gives 1,536 kWh per kWp. Without the mountains it would give 1,558: the terrain takes around 1.5% off the year, almost all of it in winter. In December it comes to 89 kWh per kWp instead of 94. In the upper streets and in houses set right against the slope we check it with the exact coordinates.

Orient: a high valley

Orient lies at over 400 m, in an enclosed valley in the mountains. Here PVGIS gives 1,503 kWh per kWp a year, and in December 82 instead of the 95 there would be without mountains: the range takes close to 14% of that month's output. On an off-grid finca, that is the figure the batteries are sized with. Orient is also a historic site declared an asset of cultural interest (BIC) (BOE of 12 March 2010): there, panels need a building licence and we work out where they won't be seen.

In numbers

What a solar panel produces in Bunyola (in numbers)

The figures come from PVGIS, the European Commission's tool (query of 7 October 2026, 35° south, 14% losses), with and without the horizon: Palmanyola 1,557 kWh per kWp a year, Bunyola 1,536 and Orient 1,503. In July all three give almost the same, between 161 and 164 kWh per kWp; the difference is in the months when the sun is low.

A 3 kWp system produces around 4,670 kWh a year in Palmanyola, 4,610 in Bunyola and 4,510 in Orient. These are figures for the centre of each settlement: inside the valley, it changes from one house to the next.

The saving is in what you use while the panels are producing. That's why the study starts with your bill and your house's coordinates, not with an average for the municipality.

Grants

Grants and local taxes in Bunyola

IBI and ICIO: Bunyola's tax bylaws published in the BOIB (IBI, BOIB no. 7 of 2021; ICIO, BOIB no. 139 of 2010) have no rebate for solar energy. If Bunyola town hall approves one, we'll tell you.

FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call runs from 26 January to 30 April 2027 or until the budget runs out, with €600/kWp up to 5 kWp and €420/kWh for batteries; you apply before work starts and it requires a home address in the Balearic Islands. For batteries, FACTOR 2026 gives 45% until 28 February 2027 and does not cover a private individual's panels. For off-grid systems, both ask for proof that the site is lawful.

If the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the self-consumption income-tax deduction (additional provision 62) is 10%, up to a maximum of €500. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Bunyola, in 3 steps

1

PVGIS with your coordinates

With the exact location, a bill and photos we run PVGIS with your house's real horizon: you'll know what you would produce in December, not just in summer.

2

Permits

We check whether the house is listed or the finca lies inside the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (Paraje Natural), and which procedure Bunyola town hall requires.

3

Installation and legalisation

We install, sign the electrical installation certificate, register the self-consumption (RD 244/2019) and, with your authorisation, file whichever grant is open.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Bunyola

Do solar panels produce the same in Palmanyola, in Bunyola and in Orient?

No. According to the typical year calculated by PVGIS (European Commission, 35° south, 14% losses), each kWp gives about 1,557 kWh a year in Palmanyola, 1,536 in Bunyola village and 1,503 in Orient. In summer there is no difference; in December, Palmanyola gives 94 kWh per kWp, Bunyola 89 and Orient 82, because the mountains block the low winter sun.

I have a finca in Orient with no grid connection: can you live on panels and batteries?

Yes, if it's sized for the worst month. In Orient, PVGIS gives about 82 kWh per kWp in December, 14% less than it would without mountains. With that figure and your winter consumption we decide how many panels, how much battery and whether a backup generator is needed. The Climate Change Act 10/2019 allows self-consumption in lawful buildings on rural land. For fincas in Bunyola we check it with the town hall first.

Is there an IBI or ICIO rebate for solar panels in Bunyola?

No. Bunyola's tax bylaws published in the BOIB (IBI, BOIB no. 7 of 2021; ICIO, BOIB no. 139 of 2010) provide no rebate for solar energy. What may apply is the self-consumption income-tax deduction, if the system is paid for and finished in 2026, and FACTOR 2026 for the batteries (45%).

My house is in the Serra de Tramuntana: will I be allowed to put up panels?

In the Balearic Islands, roof-mounted panels go through a prior notification (Planning Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e), except on listed buildings or assets of cultural interest (BIC), such as the historic site of Orient, declared in 2010. Inside the Natural Area (Paraje Natural), its Natural Resources Management Plan also applies (Decree 19/2007, amended by Decree 2/2023). We go through it with Bunyola town hall before quoting.

I live in Palmanyola in a villa with a pool: which system suits me?

One that covers what you use during the day. In Palmanyola each kWp gives about 1,557 kWh a year according to the typical year calculated by PVGIS, and 164 in July: the pool's filtration pump and the air conditioning run during the hours of sun. With your bill we work out the size and whether a battery pays off for the evening and night.

Who legalises the installation in Bunyola?

We do. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: we sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption under RD 244/2019 with the Balearic Government. We hand over the technical documents the town hall and the grants ask for.
