Solar panels in Mallorca
How self-consumption, batteries and payback work, in detail.

Esporles is tucked into a valley of the Serra de Tramuntana, and you can tell by the winter sun. We install solar panels and self-consumption, with or without batteries, in the village, in s'Esgleieta and on the fincas of the municipality, calculating the output with the terrain around each house. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: study, installation, legalisation and grant paperwork.

Your area
The village stretches along the valley floor, between mountains covered in pine and holm oak. It is one of the cool, damp spots of the range, and PVGIS, which takes the mountain horizon into account, shows it in the numbers.
On the houses in the village, the winter sun arrives later and leaves earlier than on the plain. It matters a great deal which side of the valley the house is on and how high up it sits: two roofs a hundred metres apart can produce differently in December. We calculate it with the exact coordinates.
Where the valley opens out towards Palma, in s'Esgleieta and in the houses along the road, the horizon is clear and the output comes close to Palma's. These are plots with room, also for panels on the ground.
On the fincas that climb up the range, inside the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (Paraje Natural), the first things to check are its Natural Resources Management Plan (Decree 19/2007) and Esporles's planning rules. In a house that is off the grid, the system is sized for December.
In numbers
According to PVGIS, from the European Commission (query of 7 Oct 2026, 35° south, 14% losses), in the village of Esporles each installed kWp gives about 1,493 kWh a year. In Palma it is 1,598: Esporles comes out around 7% lower.
The difference is in winter. In December, each kWp gives about 83 kWh, against 99 in Palma; the mountains on the horizon alone take close to 7% of that month. In July it gives 160, almost the same as Palma (164).
A 3 kWp system produces about 4,500 kWh a year. It still pays: what changes is that in Esporles you have to size the system looking at the winter months and not rely on an average figure for Mallorca.
Grants
ICIO (construction tax): Esporles's construction tax bylaw (art. 8.2, BOIB no. 19 of 13-02-2020) gives a 95% rebate for the solar installation. It is applied for when the works are processed, and we prepare the technical documents for you.
IBI (property tax): we have not been able to verify the IBI bylaw currently in force in Esporles, so we won't promise you a rebate: we'll check it for you before you decide.
FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call runs from 26 January to 30 April 2027, or until the budget runs out, and you apply before work starts, with a home address in the Balearic Islands. FACTOR 2026 covers batteries (45%, until 28 February 2027), not the panels of a private individual.
If the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the self-consumption income-tax deduction (additional provision 62) is 10%, up to €500. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
With the exact location, an electricity bill and photos, we run PVGIS with the mountain horizon of your house and give you the output month by month.
We check whether the house is listed or the finca lies in the Natural Area (Paraje Natural), and we process the works applying for Esporles's ICIO rebate.
We install, sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption (RD 244/2019). With your authorisation we file whichever grant is open.
Common questions
Yes, if the sums are done properly. According to the typical year calculated by PVGIS (European Commission, 35° south, 14% losses), in the village each kWp gives about 1,493 kWh a year, 7% less than in Palma (1,598). The loss is concentrated in winter: December gives 83 kWh per kWp against 99 in Palma. In summer it performs almost the same.
It depends on where the house is. In the centre of the village, PVGIS gives 1,493 kWh per kWp with the real horizon and 1,516 without mountains: the terrain takes around 1.5% a year and 7% in December. On a hillside or at the bottom of a gully it can be more; that is why we run PVGIS with your coordinates before proposing anything. This holds for the whole Esporles valley, from the village to the fincas.
Esporles's ICIO bylaw (art. 8.2, BOIB no. 19 of 13-02-2020) gives a 95% rebate for the solar installation. It is applied for when the works are processed. As for Esporles's property tax (IBI), we have not been able to verify the bylaw currently in force: we'll check it for you before you count on it.
If it lies inside the Natural Area (Paraje Natural), its Natural Resources Management Plan (Decree 19/2007, amended by Decree 2/2023), as well as the municipal planning rules. The range has also been a UNESCO Cultural Landscape since 2011, and in Esporles La Granja is an asset of cultural interest (BIC). The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 allows self-consumption on lawful buildings on rural land. We go over it with the town hall before quoting.
It depends on when you use your electricity. If the house mostly consumes in the afternoon and at night, the battery stores what is left over at midday. FACTOR 2026 subsidises 45% of the storage until 28 February 2027 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026), with a home address in the Balearic Islands. In December, with 85 kWh per kWp, there is little left over: it is sized with your bill.
We do. As a licensed low-voltage installation company we sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption under RD 244/2019 with the Balearic Government. Those are the documents that Esporles town hall asks for the ICIO, and that the grant calls require.
