Heat pumps in Lloseta:
leaving heating oil behind.

We are Joaquín and Juan, the two partners behind JSL, a RITE-licensed thermal installation company. In Lloseta we replace oil boilers, wood stoves and electric water heaters with an air-to-water heat pump that heats the house, makes your hot water and, through fan coils or ducts, cools it in August. We size it for your home, install it and register it.

Your town

Lloseta has drawn energy from its land for a century

Few Mallorcan towns have an energy story like Lloseta's. Lignite was mined here, its limestone quarries fed a Portland cement works, and shoemaking and leather kept the workshops busy (Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana). In 2021, on the grounds of that cement plant, Spain's first industrial-scale green hydrogen plant got going, powered by an 8.5 MW solar farm in the same municipality (Enagás, 3 Aug 2021).

At home the change is smaller, and it shows up on the bill first: you stop burning oil or firewood and switch to a machine that burns nothing at all. An air-to-water heat pump takes most of its heat from the outdoor air and only uses electricity to move it indoors. That is where the saving is: for every kWh of electricity it delivers several kWh of heat, whereas an electric radiator or an immersion heater gives you one at best.

The two of us handle it from start to finish. We do not subcontract any of the work.

Climate

How cold Lloseta really gets, measured rather than guessed

The town sits in the Raiguer, where the plain around Inca starts climbing towards the Serra de Tramuntana, along the s'Estorell stream. Instead of guessing, we looked up the typical meteorological year that the European Commission publishes through PVGIS for the centre of Lloseta (145 m):

  • February is the coldest month, averaging 7.6 °C.
  • January averages 8.6 °C.
  • From December to February the average is 9.7 °C: three months when the heating really works, and that is the heating you end up paying for.

Source: PVGIS-TMY, European Commission, accessed 4 October 2026 (lat. 39.7185, lon. 2.8675). Monthly averages of the typical year.

For the machine, that means it runs a long way from its limits. The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, is rated to operate from −15 °C in the manufacturer's official catalogue; the coldest month of Lloseta's typical year averages more than twenty degrees above that. We work with every brand, and the output comes from a heat-load calculation of your house, as the RITE requires.

For you, it means every degree counts. Spain's energy agency IDAE puts the cost at roughly 7 % more energy for each extra degree on the thermostat. Its advice: 21 °C for comfort, 19-21 °C during the day and 15-17 °C in bedrooms at night.

Your home

Every kind of Lloseta house needs its own design

Stone terraced house in the old centre

Thick walls, an inner courtyard and neighbours on both sides. The oldest were built before NBE-CT-79 (Royal Decree 2429/1979), the first Spanish standard to require insulation: the walls are slow to cool down and slow to warm up. These homes suit heating that runs for long hours at a low temperature, which is exactly what a heat pump does best. For the outdoor unit we look for the spot that bothers the neighbouring courtyard least; the datasheet states the noise level (for example, 55 dB(A) sound pressure for the Daitsu AOHD 40) and we choose the position with that figure in hand.

Country house or finca in the municipality

More than two thirds of Lloseta is farmland: dry-farmed almond, olive and carob trees (Gran Enciclopèdia Catalana). Houses out among those terraces usually rely on an oil tank, gas bottles or a fireplace. There is plenty of room for the outdoor unit and for a generous hot-water cylinder, and a heat pump means no more oil deliveries.

New build or full renovation

When a house is built or rebuilt from scratch, the Spanish Building Code (DB HE) already calls for an insulated envelope, and the heat pump is planned from the drawings: underfloor heating, space for fan coils or ducts, and a hot-water cylinder sized for the family who will live there. The technical background is in our heat pump guide for Mallorca.

Emitters

Will my radiators do? And what about August?

It is the question we hear most in homes that already have a boiler, and the answer comes down to water temperature. The European standard EN 14825 rates a heat pump's seasonal efficiency (SCOP) at 35 °C flow, typical of underfloor heating, and at 55 °C, typical of radiators. The cooler the water can run, the better the machine performs and the less you spend.

  • Your existing radiators: we check whether each room still gets enough heat with water cooler than an oil boiler sends round. Often they do; sometimes one or two need swapping for a larger size.
  • Underfloor heating: the emitter that gets the most out of a heat pump, if the renovation allows it. It is for heating.
  • Summer: August averages 25.8 °C in the PVGIS typical year. Cooling comes from fan coils or ducts run by the same heat pump. Cooling through the floor exists, but we don’t offer it in Mallorca: with the humidity here, a cold floor condenses. If you only want to cool a room or two, see air conditioning in Lloseta.
  • Hot water: the Building Code asks for 50-65 °C at the tap. The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, states a COPdhw of 2.74 (EN 16147): around two and a half times the hot water of an immersion heater for the same electricity.

Once it is installed you have the 3-year statutory guarantee (art. 120 of Spain's consumer law, TRLGDCU), the manufacturer's warranty and the servicing the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's schedule.

Grants

The 2026 grant and what the town hall offers

The Balearic Government's FACTOR 2026 scheme covers 70 % of the eligible cost of a heat pump, capped at €25,000 per installation for private individuals. Three things to check first:

  • the heat pump needs a seasonal performance factor (SPF) above 2.5;
  • in homes, air-to-air units (split systems) are not eligible;
  • private applicants must be domiciled in the Balearic Islands.

Work started on or after 1 January 2026 counts, and applications stay open until 28 February 2027, first come, first served, while funds last. We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded. All current schemes are on our renewable energy grants page for 2026.

Lloseta's property tax (IBI, art. 10.5 of the bylaw, BOIB no. 166 of 18-12-2025) and building tax (ICIO, art. 4.5, BOIB no. 39 of 19-03-2022) both carry rebates, but only for solar energy; heat pumps are not mentioned. If you add solar panels in Lloseta alongside the heat pump, the sun covers part of the electricity it uses and those rebates can be claimed.

What people ask us

Heat pumps in Lloseta: questions from locals

My house in old Lloseta is stone and quite old. Is a heat pump worth it?

Yes, if it is properly sized. Houses in old Lloseta built before NBE-CT-79 (Royal Decree 2429/1979) had no insulation requirement, and their thick walls want steady, gentle heating, which is how a heat pump works best. The output comes from a heat-load calculation of your house, as the RITE requires.

How cold does it get for a heat pump in Lloseta?

Not very, by heat pump standards. In the PVGIS typical meteorological year (European Commission) for Lloseta, February, the coldest month, averages 7.6 °C. The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, is rated from −15 °C, so in the Raiguer it has plenty of headroom.

I have an oil boiler with radiators. Do the radiators have to go?

Not necessarily. EN 14825 rates heat pumps at 35 °C and 55 °C water: radiators work nearer 55 °C, so efficiency is a little lower than with underfloor heating, but it works. We check room by room whether each radiator delivers enough heat with cooler water, and replace any that fall short, in Lloseta as anywhere else on Mallorca.

How much do I save on hot water compared with an electric immersion heater?

An immersion heater gives at most 1 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity. A heat pump gives considerably more: the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, states a COPdhw of 2.74 under EN 16147, with water at the 50-65 °C the Spanish Building Code requires at the tap. In a Lloseta household that difference shows on every bill.

Is there a grant for a heat pump in Lloseta in 2026?

Yes, the Balearic FACTOR 2026 scheme (BOIB no. 83, 2 July 2026): 70 % of the eligible cost, up to €25,000 per installation for individuals, for heat pumps with an SPF above 2.5; air-to-air splits in homes are excluded. Applications run until 28 February 2027 or until funds run out. We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

Does Lloseta town hall give a property-tax rebate for a heat pump?

Not according to its bylaws. Lloseta's IBI rebate (art. 10.5, BOIB no. 166 of 18-12-2025) and ICIO rebate (art. 4.5, BOIB no. 39 of 19-03-2022) are for solar energy. If you add solar panels to the heat pump, those can be claimed.

Can the same unit cool the house in summer?

Yes, through fan coils or ducts connected to the air-to-water heat pump. Underfloor heating is for heating only. Cooling through the floor exists, but we don’t offer it in Mallorca: with the humidity here, a cold floor condenses. August in Lloseta averages 25.8 °C according to PVGIS, so you will use it.

How often does a heat pump need servicing?

As often as the RITE sets (IT 3.3, table 3.1, depending on output and use) or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as the manufacturer of your unit specifies. On top of that you have the 3-year statutory guarantee (art. 120 TRLGDCU) and the manufacturer's warranty, in Lloseta and the rest of Mallorca.
