What a house in Consell needs
Consell is flat and a long way from the sea: hot summers, and winters with cold nights. The village stands at 152 m according to AEMET, below 250 m, so the Spanish Building Code puts it in climate zone B3, the same as Palma (CTE DB-HE, Annex B). The house needs both things, heat and cooling, and a heat pump gives both.
Village houses with no room outside
In a house with party walls on both sides, the place for the outdoor unit is the back yard, the patio or the roof terrace. It is chosen with the neighbour's noise in mind and so that air can circulate. Indoors, the hot-water cylinder and the hydraulic module fit in a utility room or in the space left by the old boiler.
Houses with oil-fired radiators
The heat pump connects to the radiators already there. It performs better the cooler the water runs, so we check whether the radiators give the heat needed at a lower temperature; sometimes changing two or three is enough.
Renovations and new builds
If the floor is coming up, underfloor heating for warmth: it works with lukewarm water, which is where a heat pump performs best. Summer cooling comes from fan coils or ducts connected to the same machine; cooling is never done through the floor, because with Mallorca's humidity it causes condensation.

Where the saving is with a heat pump in Consell
A boiler burns fuel and delivers, at most, what it burns. A heat pump uses electricity to bring in heat from the outside air. For example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid declares a SCOP of 3.72 in the official Daitsu 2024-25 catalogue: almost four kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity, on average over the season. It is an example; we work with every brand.
The thermostat does the rest. According to the IDAE, every extra degree of heating raises consumption by around 7%; 21 °C is comfortable and in bedrooms 15-17 °C is enough. And if the house has solar panels, part of the electricity the heat pump uses comes from the roof.
Grants
Grants for heat pumps in Consell
FACTOR 2026, the Balearic Government's call, subsidises 70% of a heat pump for a private individual. The calculation allows up to €1,000 per kWt of heat pump and a further €450/kWt when new distribution is fitted (underfloor heating, fan coils); the limit is €25,000 per installation. Deadline: until 28 February 2027 or until funds run out. It requires a seasonal performance factor (SPF) above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands; air-to-air units in homes are not eligible.
Careful with Consell's property-tax (IBI) rebate: the bylaw (art. 6.5, BOIB no. 136 of 2020) rewards solar energy, photovoltaic or thermal, not heat pumps. If you are fitting panels as well, see solar panels in Consell.
If the works improve the home's efficiency and that is certified, the income-tax (IRPF) deduction for energy efficiency may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we do it in Consell, in 3 steps

Calculating the house
We look at what heating you have, the floor areas and the hot water the family uses, and we calculate the output from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires.

Installation and legalisation
We install the heat pump and the emitters and leave the installation legalised under the RITE. Servicing: whatever the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's.

The FACTOR grant
With your authorisation we file FACTOR 2026 and its justification; you sign and the money is paid into your account.

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Consell
Which climate zone is Consell in for calculating the heating?
B3, the same as Palma: the Spanish Building Code puts towns in the Balearic Islands up to 250 m of altitude in B3 and those above in C3 (CTE DB-HE, Annex B), and Consell stands at 152 m according to AEMET. The heat pump's output does not come from that letter, but from the thermal-load calculation for your house, as the RITE requires.
Does Consell's property-tax (IBI) rebate apply to heat pumps?
No. Consell's IBI bylaw (art. 6.5, BOIB no. 136 of 2020) gives a rebate for solar energy: 50% for photovoltaics of at least 3 kW and 25% for solar thermal, for 3 years. Heat pumps have their own grant, FACTOR 2026, which pays 70% to private individuals up to a maximum of €25,000 per installation.
I have radiators and an oil boiler in Consell: does everything have to be changed?
No. The heat pump connects to the radiator circuit you already have and takes the boiler's place. The size of the radiators is checked, because a heat pump performs better with the water at a lower temperature: as an example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid declares a SCOP of 3.72 in its official 2024-25 catalogue. If you are renovating, the best thing for heating is underfloor heating. It is what we propose for a village house in Consell with no building work planned.
How much does FACTOR 2026 pay towards a heat pump for a house in Consell?

Does a heat pump also cool the house in summer in Consell?
Yes, with fan coils or ducts connected to the same heat pump. Cooling is never done through the underfloor heating: in Mallorca, with the humidity, a cold floor causes condensation. In summer the IDAE recommends 26 °C; every degree lower raises consumption by around 7%.
Where does the outdoor unit go in a village house in Consell?
In the back yard, in a patio or on the roof terrace, where its noise bothers no one and it has open air around it. Noise limits are set by the Balearic Noise Pollution Act 1/2007; we choose a quiet unit and mount it on anti-vibration supports.
