At the foot of Puig de Sant Salvador, many houses in Felanitx have thick stone walls and few windows: cool in June, but cold and damp in January. A heat-pump split does both jobs. We are Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered installer certified for F-gases.

Your area
The municipality of Felanitx runs from the town and its inland hamlets —S'Horta, Cas Concos, Es Carritxó— down to the coast at Portocolom, Cala Ferrera and Cala Serena. A stone house in the old town is not air-conditioned like a villa by the harbour.
A half-metre stone wall takes hours to warm up and cool down. In summer that helps: the house needs less cooling than a brick flat. In winter it is the other way round: it is slow to warm up, and an inverter that modulates instead of stopping and starting is what keeps consumption in check.
On a finca the outdoor unit can go well away from the bedrooms so it isn't heard, but each manufacturer sets in its manual the maximum pipe length and height difference between units. We measure before proposing where each machine goes.
By the harbour, humidity and salt rule: the outdoor unit is sheltered from the sea wind and the condensate drain is done properly.
In numbers
A heat-pump split takes heat from the outside air. AEMET's Palma airport series (1981-2010) gives an average January low of 3.8 °C, and a unit like the General ASEH09KJCAL declares heating operation down to −20 °C outside: even if inland it gets colder than in Palma, the machine almost always works far from its limit. The manufacturer does warn that output falls the colder it is outside.
In winter IDAE recommends 21 °C in living areas, and bedrooms need less at night. Each degree you don't ask of the machine is around 7 % less energy for heating and cooling, according to the same IDAE.
How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we come.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires, and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
For heating particular rooms, yes: an air-to-air heat pump delivers several times the electricity it uses as heat, and copes easily with winters here (average January low of 3.8 °C in AEMET's Palma series, 1981-2010). For the whole house with hot water included, it is worth comparing with an air-to-water heat pump and radiators or underfloor heating; we calculate both for you.
On Felanitx fincas, as far as the manufacturer allows. Each unit's manual gives the maximum refrigerant pipe length and the maximum height difference between indoor and outdoor units; going beyond affects performance and the warranty. We measure the run and, if it doesn't reach, look for another discreet spot that complies. Distance is worth it: the General 2.5 kW outdoor unit, for example, declares 44 dB(A) in heating.
For a Felanitx home, IDAE recommends 21 °C in winter, with suitable clothing, and each extra degree means around 7 % more consumption. In bedrooms, at night, less is enough. With an inverter it doesn't pay to switch on and off constantly: holding a sensible set point costs less than making it recover a cold house.
From the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE sets out: size, ceiling height, orientation, windows, insulation, whether there is a roof above and how many people use it. In Felanitx's stone houses the thick wall changes the numbers a lot compared with a modern flat, which is why we don't use square-metre tables.
In Mallorca, as in the rest of Spain, the company must be registered as a thermal installer under the RITE and, because an air conditioner has a refrigerant circuit, whoever handles the gas needs the F-gas certificate (Royal Decree 115/2017). JSL holds both, and the equipment carries the 3-year legal guarantee (arts. 115 quater and 120 of Spain's consumer protection law) plus the manufacturer's.
In Portocolom, salt settles on the coil and the fixings. We place it sheltered from the sea wind where the house allows, check whether the manufacturer offers anti-corrosion treatment and recommend cleaning it more often than inland. Servicing: what the regulations (RITE, IT.3) require or, if the manufacturer asks for more, what the manufacturer asks.
