The municipality of Campos is flat and open to the sun, with the town in the middle, fincas across the plain and, on the coast, Sa Ràpita, Ses Covetes and Es Trenc beach, inside the Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos natural park.
Large houses: ducted or multi-split
With six or eight rooms, filling the house with splits isn't the most comfortable option. One or two ducted units with zones, or a well-planned multi-split, air-condition the whole house with fewer machines on show.
Fincas on the plain
On a finca there is plenty of room for the outdoor unit, away from the bedrooms. What rules is the pipe length and height difference each manufacturer allows, and whether the electrical supply can take the load.

What the regulations say when the installation is large
Under the RITE (art. 15), from 5 kW of installed thermal capacity the installation needs a technical report (or a full design, above 70 kW) and the certificate is registered with the regional government; we prepare it when required. Minimum maintenance also rises with capacity: an air conditioner of 12 to 70 kW moves to a service every 2 years in homes (IT.3, table 3.1), or what the manufacturer asks if that is more.
Where a large house saves most is by not air-conditioning what isn't in use: zones and set points per room. IDAE calculates around 7 % less per degree; and if you have solar panels, summer air conditioning runs just when they produce most.

Frequently asked questions about air conditioning in Campos
I have a large house in Campos: ducted or several splits?
In Campos's large houses, if there is a false ceiling or one can be built, zoned ducting air-conditions several rooms with one machine and nothing on the walls; if not, a multi-split or several splits. The choice comes from each room's thermal loads, calculated as the RITE requires, and from how many rooms you use at once.
Does an air-conditioning installation in Campos have to be registered?
It depends on capacity. The RITE (art. 15) requires documentation to be filed with the regional government for installations of 5 kW of thermal capacity or more: a technical report from 5 to 70 kW and a full design above 70 kW. A large house or finca often reaches or exceeds 5 kW; in that case we prepare the documentation and the certificate.
How often should a large ducted unit be serviced?
A large house or finca in Campos easily exceeds 12 kW. Under the RITE (IT.3, table 3.1), a unit of 12 to 70 kW needs at least one service every 2 years in homes and every year in other uses. If its gas charge brings it under the leak checks of Regulation (EU) 2024/573, that obligation is added, and if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer rules.
Can my solar panels run the air conditioning?

What care does air conditioning need in Sa Ràpita or Ses Covetes?
Near the sea in Sa Ràpita or Ses Covetes, salt settles on the outdoor unit's coil and fixings. We place it sheltered from the sea wind if possible, check in the datasheet whether the manufacturer offers anti-corrosion treatment, and it is worth cleaning it more often. The condensate drain must be done properly: average relative humidity is already 72 % in Palma (AEMET, 1981-2010), and higher next to Es Trenc.
