The sea breeze doesn't reach the interior of the island and summer afternoons drag on. In Montuïri we fit splits and ducted units in village houses and on fincas, with the outdoor unit where it can't be seen and won't disturb anyone. We are Joaquín and Juan, RITE-licensed and F-gas certified: we don't subcontract to anyone.

Your village
Montuïri sits on a hill, in the middle of the Pla. The village houses step down the hillside, with narrow fronts onto sloping streets; outside, the fincas have room to spare. The unit can be the same; what changes is where it goes.
On a sloping street, an outdoor unit hung on the façade can be seen from halfway down the street and drips onto the pavement. The usual thing is to take it up to the flat roof terrace or to the back yard, with the refrigerant line run inside and the condensate drain properly piped away. If the house is listed, we first check what the council allows.
The upstairs rooms, under the roof, are the ones that overheat most. A small, quiet inverter split works very well there; what helps the unit most is an insulated roof and lowering the blind in the sunny hours.
In a country house with a living room and several bedrooms, a multi-split or a ducted system lets you air-condition everything with one outdoor unit, placed in the shade and away from the terrace where you have dinner.
In numbers
In the PVGIS monthly series (European Commission, 2005-2020 averages), Montuïri averages 26.1 °C in July and 25.8 °C in August; Palma, 26.5 and 26.4 °C. The strong heat is concentrated in the afternoons of July and August, and that is why the unit's seasonal efficiency, the SEER declared on its label, matters here.
We fit inverter units: IDAE counts inverter units, which adjust their output, among those that save energy (Guía Práctica de la Energía). We calculate the output from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), not by eye.
Then there is the remote: IDAE recommends 26 °C in summer and puts the saving at around 7 % for each degree the set temperature is raised. By that reckoning, going from 23 to 26 °C means roughly a fifth less consumption.

How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we will come and look.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
Not on average: in the PVGIS monthly series (European Commission, 2005-2020 averages), August averages 25.8 °C in Montuïri, compared with 26.4 °C in Palma. For air conditioning that means afternoon heat in July and August and nights when ventilating is often enough.
Normally on the flat roof terrace or in the back yard, with the pipework inside. On the façade, in a narrow street, it is visible, makes noise at the level of the neighbour's window and drips onto the pavement. On noise, the limits come from the municipal noise bylaw and from the values to which the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007 refers (art. 16 and fourth transitional provision); and if the house is listed, we first ask the council which procedure applies.
Whatever comes out of calculating the room's thermal loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1): orientation, windows, whether it is under the roof and how many people use it all count. A bedroom under the roof of a house in Montuïri doesn't need the same as one on the ground floor with stone walls. The RITE requires the output to match the demand (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and IDAE advises against choosing units more powerful than needed.
Yes. A split is an air-to-air heat pump: in winter it reverses the cycle and heats on far less electricity than an electric radiator. In Montuïri, with a January average of 10.7 °C according to PVGIS, it is good heating for one room or for a house used now and then. The units we fit use R32 gas (global warming potential 675, according to annex I of EU Regulation 2024/573).
The stricter of the regulations and your unit's manual applies. The RITE (IT 3.3, table 3.1) sets as a minimum, for a unit of up to 12 kW in a home, a service every 4 years; each manufacturer's manual also sets how often to clean the filters. On a finca in the Pla, with dust from the fields, it is worth cleaning the outdoor unit's coil too.

For example Daikin, DAITSU, Mitsubishi Electric, General, Fujitsu, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Toshiba or Haier: the model is chosen for its consumption, noise and size, not for the logo.
