Santa Eugènia lies sheltered among hills, far from the coastal breeze. We fit splits and ducted units in village houses, villas and fincas, and in the protected hamlets we look for a way to keep the outdoor unit out of sight. We are Joaquín and Juan, RITE-licensed and F-gas certified: we don't subcontract to anyone.

Your village
Of the villages in the centre of the island that we have looked up in PVGIS, Santa Eugènia is the one with most hours of strong heat: about 380 a year above 30 °C in the typical meteorological year it calculates (a modelled year, not a measurement), almost double Palma's (about 210).
Many people in Santa Eugènia live here all year round, and more and more of them work from home. That changes the use: the air conditioning is no longer just for sleeping, but also for the study at four in the afternoon. The best choice is a unit that modulates well at low load and a workroom with good shade.
The three hamlets have been assets of cultural interest (BIC) since 2009 (BOE no. 115, 12 May 2009). An outdoor unit on a façade or on a visible roof needs a building permit and may need the approval of the Consell de Mallorca's Heritage department (Balearic Historical Heritage Act 12/1998, art. 37). The usual thing is to take it to a patio or an inner back yard and run the pipes inside.
With a garden there is room for the outdoor unit; it goes in the shade, away from the bedrooms and the terrace. In houses with several rooms, a multi-split or a ducted system avoids filling the garden with machines.
In numbers
With July averaging 26.4 °C (the PVGIS monthly series (European Commission, 2005-2020 averages)), the unit runs on quite a few afternoons. What cuts consumption most is keeping the heat out: awnings or blinds on west-facing windows and, if possible, insulation in the roof.
Then the unit: an inverter, with the output calculated from thermal loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1). The RITE requires the output to match the demand (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and IDAE advises against choosing units more powerful than needed.
And the set temperature: 26 °C in summer, which is what IDAE recommends. Each degree below is around 7 % more consumption.

How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we will come and look.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
In the PVGIS monthly series (European Commission, 2005-2020 averages), Santa Eugènia averages 26.4 °C in July and 26.1 °C in August; Palma, 26.5 and 26.4 °C. It is afternoon heat, and air conditioning is sized for those afternoons.
On the façade, it is unlikely. Ses Olleries, ses Alqueries and ses Coves are assets of cultural interest (BIC) (Consell de Mallorca, 2009): any visible element needs a building permit and may need the Heritage authorisation provided for in the Balearic Historical Heritage Act 12/1998 (art. 37). The usual solution is a patio, a back yard or a roof that can't be seen from the street, with the pipes run inside. We prepare the unit's documents for the application.
A small, quiet inverter unit, sized for that room from its thermal loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1): orientation, windows, computers and people. It will work long hours at low load, so a good seasonal efficiency matters, which the manufacturer declares as SEER on the label. At 26 °C, the set temperature IDAE recommends, and with the west-facing window well shaded: in Santa Eugènia the heat bites in the afternoon.
If your heat pump is air-to-water, cooling can come from fan coils or ducts connected to it, without adding another machine; not through the floor, because in Mallorca condensation forms. If not, a split, for example a Daikin wall unit, is an independent air-to-air heat pump. See heat pumps in Santa Eugènia to find out what fits your house.
The stricter of the regulations and the manual applies. The RITE (IT 3.3, table 3.1) sets as a minimum a service every 4 years for units of up to 12 kW in homes; each manufacturer's manual also sets how often to clean the filters. In Santa Eugènia, where the unit works many afternoons, dirty filters show in the consumption and in the noise.

For example Daikin, DAITSU, Mitsubishi Electric, General, Fujitsu, Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Toshiba or Haier: the model is chosen for its consumption, noise and size, not for the logo.
