In Petra we fit splits, multi-splits and ducted units in village houses and on fincas. We take care where it shows most: that the outdoor unit doesn't hang on the façade, that the drain doesn't drip onto the street and that the unit cools in August and heats in January. We are Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered installer also certified for F-gases: we don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
Petra is in the interior of Mallorca, at around 100 metres of altitude. According to PVGIS data (ERA5 reanalysis, 2011-2020), mean August maximums are around 30 °C and January minimums, around 8.6 °C: the air conditioning works in summer and in winter.
The village streets are straight and narrow, and a unit on the façade is seen and heard. In a terraced house it goes in the back yard, in the courtyard or on the flat roof, with the refrigerant line run inside. If the house is listed, we check first what the Town Council requires.
A stone house stays cool through the morning. With the shutters down in the sunny hours and the air at 26 °C, the unit works at part load, which is where it uses least.
In a country house with separate rooms, a multi-split with a single outdoor unit or one split per room, depending on the distances. With wifi, it is switched on before you arrive.
In numbers
We fit inverter units because the compressor regulates its speed instead of starting and stopping, and start-ups are what use the most. For example, the General ASEH09KJCAL split declares a SEER of 9.2 on its data sheet. It's a manufacturer test figure; we work with every brand and choose the model with your house in front of us.
We calculate the output from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires. IDAE recommends 26 °C in summer and puts the saving at around 7% for each degree. And in winter the same split is a heat pump: it heats on a fraction of what a resistance heater uses.
How we work
Send us photos of the rooms and of the spot for the outdoor unit, with approximate sizes. If we need to see it, we come.
We calculate the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires, and send you an itemised quote.
We fit it ourselves: vacuum and leak test of the circuit, drain tested and the unit running, with the 3-year legal guarantee and the manufacturer warranty.
Common questions
In the back yard, a courtyard or on the flat roof, not on the street façade if it can be avoided. The refrigerant line runs inside and the drain goes to a collection point. The noise has to comply with the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007, and if the house is listed we consult Petra Town Council first.
Yes. A split is an air-to-air heat pump. In Petra the mean January minimum is around 8.6 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020), a long way from the limit of units such as the General ASEH09KJCAL, which declares heating operation down to −20 °C. For one room or a small house, it heats on far less than an electric radiator.
IDAE recommends 26 °C and reckons around 7% of saving for each degree: going from 24 to 26 °C is in the region of 14% less. In a stone house in Petra, lowering the shutters in the sunny hours helps as much as the remote.
It depends on the house. One split per room is the simplest; a multi-split saves outdoor units when there is no room; ducts need a false ceiling and leave the walls clear. We decide after calculating the thermal loads of each room of your Petra house, as the RITE requires, and seeing where the pipes can run.
Whichever is stricter, the regulations or your unit's manual. The RITE (IT 3.3, table 3.1) sets as a minimum, in homes and up to 12 kW, a service every 4 years, and the manufacturer usually asks for the filters to be cleaned every few weeks. In Petra, with dust from the fields in summer, it's worth looking at the filters and the outdoor coil more often.
It depends on the gas. With R410A, not by obligation: EU Regulation 2024/573 restricts the gases in new units, and the one you already have in your Petra house can keep running and be repaired. An R22 unit can keep running, but since 2015 that gas can no longer be used to service or recharge it (Regulation (EC) 1005/2009): if it loses gas, it has to be replaced. The units we fit today use R32, with a global warming potential of 675. Replacing it pays when the repair isn't worth it.
