Heat pumps · Petra

Heat pumps in Petra,
for the Pla's winter.

We are Joaquín and Juan. In Petra we install air-to-water heat pumps in village houses and on fincas across the municipality: one heat pump that gives heating, hot water and, in summer, cooling, and retires the oil boiler or the gas bottles. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer: study, installation, legalisation and the grant, all ours. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area

Petra: inland, winter nights are colder

Petra is inland, at around 100 metres of altitude and far from the sea, which is what softens the nights on the coast. PVGIS temperature data (ERA5 reanalysis, 2011-2020) give a mean January minimum of 8.6 °C, one degree less than Palma (9.6 °C).

Village houses with thick walls

A stone house is slow to warm up and slow to cool down. With a heat pump working gently for many hours, it stays warm instead of lurching from one burst of the stove to the next. Radiators will do if they are big enough; if you renovate, underfloor heating for warmth.

Fincas on oil or bottled gas

On a finca, the heat pump replaces the boiler and supplies hot water to the whole house. The outdoor unit goes outside, where it's no bother and the air can flow around it, and the tank, in a plant room or the utility room.

Summer: cooling comes by air

The same heat pump cools in summer through fan coils or ducts. Underfloor heating only heats: in Mallorca, with the humidity, cooling never goes through the floor.

In numbers

Where a heat pump saves in Petra

A boiler burns fuel; a heat pump moves the heat that is already in the air. For example, Daitsu's official 2024-25 catalogue gives its Multi-Hybrid a SCOP of 3.72: over the season, about 3.7 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity. It's an example; we work with every brand and the model is chosen with your house in front of us.

Petra is below 250 m, in climate zone B3 of the Spanish Building Code (CTE DB-HE, annex B), like Palma. The output is calculated from your house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires. And the thermostat counts: according to IDAE, each extra degree raises consumption by around 7%; 21 °C is comfortable and bedrooms need only 15-17 °C.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Petra

FACTOR 2026, from the Balearic Government, pays a private individual 70% of a heat pump. The calculation is made on a maximum of €1,000 per kWt of the unit, plus €450/kWt if new distribution such as underfloor heating is fitted, and with a cap of €25,000 per installation. Open until 28 February 2027 or until the budget runs out. It requires a seasonal performance (SPF) above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands, and it leaves out air-to-air units in homes.

Petra's IBI rebate is for photovoltaics (3 kW or more), not for the heat pump. If you are going to fit both, see solar panels in Petra.

If the work improves the home's energy efficiency and is certified, the energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and, afterwards, the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Petra, in 3 steps

1

How you heat today

You tell us which boiler or stoves you have, what the house is like and how much hot water you use, and we calculate the output from the thermal loads, as the RITE requires.

2

Installation

We install the heat pump and the tank, connect radiators, underfloor heating or fan coils and legalise under the RITE. Servicing: as the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer requires more, as the manufacturer says.

3

The FACTOR grant

With a home address in the Balearic Islands and your authorisation, we submit the FACTOR 2026 application and the proof of expenditure; you sign and the money reaches your account.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Petra

Is it colder in Petra than in Palma in winter?

At night, a little. PVGIS temperature data (ERA5 reanalysis, 2011-2020) give Petra a mean January minimum of 8.6 °C, against Palma's 9.6 °C. For the Spanish Building Code both are in zone B3 (up to 250 m in the Balearics). The heat pump's output is calculated from your house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires.

I have an oil boiler and radiators in my Petra house: will they work with a heat pump?

Often, yes. A heat pump performs better the lower the water temperature, so we have to check, with the thermal loads the RITE requires, that the radiators in your Petra house give enough heat when running cooler. If they fall short, one or two are enlarged. And if there is a renovation, underfloor heating is the best match for a heat pump for heating.

How much does the FACTOR 2026 grant cover in a house in Petra?

70% for a private individual, calculated on a maximum of €1,000/kWt of the heat pump (plus €450/kWt if there is new distribution) and with a cap of €25,000 per installation (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026). It is open until 28 February 2027, in order of receipt, and requires an SPF above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands.

Can I cool my Petra house with the underfloor heating in summer?

It exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor condenses. Underfloor heating heats in winter, and summer cooling comes from fan coils, ducts or splits connected to the same heat pump. In Petra mean August maximums are around 30 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020).

Where does the outdoor unit go in a village house?

In the back yard, the courtyard or on the flat roof, where the air can flow around it and it doesn't bother the neighbour. The noise has to comply with the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007, and if the house in Petra is listed we check first what the Town Council requires.

What maintenance does a heat pump need?

What the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer of the unit asks for more, what the manufacturer says: the stricter of the two always applies. If the water in your Petra house is hard, it is also worth keeping an eye on limescale in the hot water tank; we note it in the documents we hand over.
