Heat pumps in Mallorca
How a heat pump, COP and the multi-hybrid work, in detail.

We are Joaquín and Juan. In Llubí we install air-to-water heat pumps in village houses and in country houses: heating, hot water and cooling from one heat pump, which pairs very well with a few panels on the roof. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer and, for the panels and the electrical side, an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: from the calculation to legalisation and the grant. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
In Llubí the village house with an electric water heater and stoves sits alongside the country house with an oil boiler. A heat pump solves both, but not in the same way.
If today you heat your water with an electric water heater or with bottled gas, a heat pump for domestic hot water is the first step: it uses a fraction of what a heating element uses and fits where the water heater is. Heating can be added later on.
In a house with radiators and a boiler, the heat pump takes the boiler's place. If there is a renovation, underfloor heating for warmth and fan coils or ducts for summer cooling, because cooling doesn't go through the floor.
A heat pump uses electricity, and in Llubí the Town Council gives an IBI rebate for fitting photovoltaics. With both, the heat pump heats the tank at midday on the electricity from the panels.
In numbers
Instead of producing heat, a heat pump moves it from the outside air. A manufacturer's figure to give you an idea: SCOP 3.72 for the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid (official 2024-25 catalogue), that is, 3.7 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity on average over the season. An electric water heater or radiator gives 1 for 1. We work with every brand; it's only an example.
Llubí, below 100 m of altitude, is in climate zone B3 of the Spanish Building Code. In January, the mean minimum is around 8.2 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020), a little over a degree below Palma. The output comes from your house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires, and IDAE points out that each extra degree costs around 7%: 21 °C by day and 15-17 °C in the bedrooms.
Grants
For a heat pump in a Llubí house there is FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026): 70% of the eligible cost for private individuals, calculated with €1,000/kWt at most and €450/kWt added if there is new distribution; the maximum per installation is €25,000. Deadline: until 28 February 2027 or the end of the funds. The heat pump has to prove an SPF above 2.5 and the applicant, a home address in the Balearic Islands; air-to-air in homes does not qualify.
Llubí's IBI and ICIO rebates are designed for panels and energy efficiency; we'll check at the Town Council what applies to your works. The solar part is on solar panels in Llubí.
If the work improves the home's energy efficiency and is certified, the energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and, afterwards, the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
We see whether it suits you to start with the hot water or to change the whole heating system, and we calculate the output from the house's thermal loads, as the RITE requires.
We install the heat pump and its tank and leave the system legalised under the RITE. Servicing: as the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer demands more, as the manufacturer says.
With your authorisation we handle the application and the proof of expenditure; you sign and the grant is paid into your account.
Common questions
Yes. For a house in Llubí there are heat pumps just for domestic hot water, with the tank built in, that take up little more room than a water heater and use a good deal less than a heating element. If you want heating later on, a unit for the whole house can be considered. The installation is legalised under the RITE.
FACTOR 2026 (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026) subsidises for private individuals 70% of a heat pump with an SPF above 2.5, on a maximum of €1,000/kWt and up to €25,000 per installation, until 28 February 2027. Whether your particular unit meets the rules we check against its data sheet before quoting; a home address in the Balearic Islands is needed.
Yes. Llubí is in climate zone B3 of the Spanish Building Code, and the mean January minimum is around 8.2 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020): a long way from a heat pump's working limit. In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit defrosts now and then, which is normal.
Part of the electricity the heat pump uses comes from your roof. In Llubí panels give about 1,534 kWh a year per kWp according to PVGIS, and the Town Council gives an IBI rebate for photovoltaics. The heat pump is programmed to heat the tank in the sunny hours.
Underfloor heating is for heating. Cooling through the floor exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor condenses. For summer, the same heat pump feeds fan coils or ducts, sized from the thermal loads the RITE requires.
Around 7% per degree, according to IDAE, which recommends 21 °C by day and 15-17 °C in the bedrooms. In a Llubí house with a heat pump, moreover, the cooler the water in the radiators or the floor runs, the better the unit performs.
