Heat pumps in Mallorca
How a heat pump, COP and the multi-hybrid work, in detail.

We're Joaquín and Juan. In Muro we install air-to-water heat pumps in village houses, fincas on the plain and homes at Platja de Muro. A heat pump gives you heating, air conditioning and hot water with a fraction of a boiler's energy. RITE-registered thermal installer: survey, installation, legalisation and grant. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
Muro combines the village, a plain of fincas without mains gas and a strip of coast used in summer. In all three a heat pump replaces something more expensive.
Many houses in Muro still heat with an oil boiler and radiators. The heat pump connects to the radiators you already have, the tank and refills go, and the same unit makes the hot water. If you renovate, underfloor heating, which works at a lower temperature and performs better.
On the fincas the alternative is usually oil or butane. A heat pump replaces them, and since there's usually room for solar panels on a finca, the heat pump can be set to run when there's spare sun.
On the coast the big cost is air conditioning and hot water in the season. The outdoor unit is protected from salt, and cooling comes from ducts, fan coils or splits: underfloor heating is for heating.
Muro shares with sa Pobla the s'Albufera de Mallorca Natural Park, the largest wetland in the Balearics (2,036 ha), declared by Decree 4/1988 of 28 January, and also a Ramsar wetland, SPA and SCI in the Natura 2000 network. If your house or finca borders the park, the position of the outdoor unit and any trench are checked first against its rules and the town-hall permit.
In numbers
With the typical year the European Commission's PVGIS calculates (ERA5 data, 2005-2020) for Muro village, February averages 8.7 °C and July rises to 26.6 °C; June to August averages 25.6 °C. These are monthly averages of a calculated year, not records or weather-station data.
That is why in Muro the heat pump works both ways: heating and hot water in winter, air conditioning in summer, all from the same unit. Summer cooling comes through fan coils, ducts or split units; underfloor heating is for heating.
According to IDAE, one extra degree on the winter thermostat is about 7 % more consumption; 21 °C is enough.
Grants
The grant that applies here is FACTOR 2026 (Balearic Government). For an individual in Muro it funds 70 % of the heat pump; the cost taken into account reaches €1,000/kWt, or €450/kWt more if new distribution goes in, and never exceeds €25,000 per installation. Deadline: 28 February 2027, in order of arrival while funds last. The unit must have an SPF above 2.5, air-to-air units in homes are excluded, and you must be domiciled in the Balearic Islands.
The IBI and ICIO rebates in Muro's bylaw are for solar energy. If you add panels to the heat pump, see solar panels in Muro.
On top of that, in your main home or one you let, a certified efficiency improvement may be deductible in Spanish income tax (IRPF) if the work is finished in 2026, by 31 December at the latest; you claim it in your return, with the invoices and certificates we give you.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
Send us by WhatsApp or email photos of the oil boiler or the butane, the radiators and the spot for the outdoor unit; with that and the heat loads the RITE requires we work out output and saving. If needed, we come to Muro.
We install the unit, the hot-water cylinder and whatever the emitters need, and register it with the Industry department under the RITE.
With your authorisation we process and justify FACTOR 2026; the signature and the payment are yours. Servicing: the RITE's, or the manufacturer's if it asks for more.

Common questions
In a house in Muro, in many cases yes: the heat pump connects to the existing radiators and also makes the hot water. What we check first is the temperature they need to heat the house; the lower it is, the better the unit performs. If you renovate, underfloor heating is the most efficient way to heat. Everything is sized from the house's heat loads, as the RITE requires.
For a house in Muro, for example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid has a seasonal SCOP of 3.72 and a COP of up to 4.24 (official Daitsu catalogue 2024-25): on average about 3.7 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity. An oil boiler doesn't multiply, it burns. According to IDAE, each degree lower on the thermostat also saves about 7 %.
Yes. In the typical year PVGIS calculates for Muro (ERA5 2005-2020), February averages 8.7 °C and July 26.6 °C. The same heat pump gives heating and hot water in winter and cooling in summer, the latter through fan coils, ducts or split units, never through the floor. Output is sized from the house's heat loads, as the RITE requires.
It exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor gets condensation. Underfloor heating is for heating; in summer, fan coils, ducts or split units run by the same heat pump do the cooling. And in winter, according to IDAE, each degree lower on the thermostat saves about 7 %.
A heat pump for air conditioning and hot water, programmable from your phone, with the outdoor unit protected from salt. If the house stays closed in winter, it's left with frost protection. Note: FACTOR requires individuals to be domiciled in the Balearics. If you qualify, the FACTOR grant is 70 %.
s'Albufera de Mallorca has been a Natural Park since Decree 4/1988 of 28 January and lies between Muro and sa Pobla. If the finca is inside or borders the park, before placing the outdoor unit or digging a trench we check its rules and the town-hall permit. Servicing afterwards: the RITE's or the manufacturer's, always the stricter.
