A heat pump for a house in Campanet

Campanet, at the foot of the Tramuntana, has cooler winters than the coast and many stone and country houses. Here heating weighs most, and that's where switching to a heat pump pays off most.

Country homes without gas

Across the municipality, heating is usually oil, butane or wood. The heat pump replaces them, with the outdoor unit in a courtyard or by a wall, as in the photo, well ventilated and away from windows.

Stone village houses

Thick walls that are slow to warm up but hold the heat. If you renovate, underfloor heating, which works at low temperature; if not, we use the existing radiators.

Summer: cooling by air

In summer, cooling comes from fan coils, ducts or splits run by the same heat pump. Underfloor heating is for heating: in Mallorca, with the humidity, a cold floor gets condensation.

Ses Fonts Ufanes and the Serra

In Campanet's municipal area, on the Gabellí Petit public estate by the hermitage of Sant Miquel, the Fonts Ufanes springs burst out; they are a Natural Monument under Decree 111/2001 of 31 August (BOIB no. 109, 11-9-2001), and the water gushes suddenly after rain has built up in the Puig Tomir massif. Campanet is also one of the municipalities of the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (PORN: Decree 19/2007). If your country house is on protected land, the outdoor unit and any trenches are planned with that plan and the town-hall permit.

In numbers

Campanet's climate, the coldest of these four villages

In the typical year from the European Commission's PVGIS (ERA5 data, 2005-2020) for Campanet village, February averages 8.5 °C and December to February averages 9.6 °C. With the same calculation, Pollença old town gives 12.3 °C and Muro 11.1 °C for those three months. In summer, July averages 26.3 °C.

For a heat pump that means two things. One: with cold, damp air the outdoor coil can frost up and the unit runs defrost cycles, so it goes in a ventilated spot with the defrost water properly drained. Two: output is sized at the design temperature from the house's heat loads, as the RITE requires, not from the average.

And in a stone house, according to IDAE, each degree lower on the thermostat saves about 7 %: a steady, programmed 21 °C beats turning it up and down.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Campanet

To replace the heating oil, butane or firewood in a Campanet house there is FACTOR 2026 (Balearic Government): a 70 % grant for individuals. Eligible cost counts up to €1,000/kWt of output, plus €450/kWt if underfloor heating or other new distribution goes in, capped at €25,000 per installation. Until 28 February 2027 or until funds run out, in order of arrival. Requirements: SPF above 2.5, domicile in the Balearic Islands and not an air-to-air home unit.

Campanet's IBI rebate is for solar energy. If you add panels, see solar panels in Campanet.

If the house is your main home or you let it, a certified energy-efficiency improvement may be deductible in Spanish income tax (works until 31 December 2026): the deduction is yours to claim in your return, with the paperwork we give you.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Campanet, in 3 steps

1

Photos and how you heat

By WhatsApp or email you send us photos of the boiler, stove or fireplace, the radiators or floor and the yard where the outdoor unit would go. We size the unit from the heat loads the RITE requires, with Campanet's cold mornings in mind. If needed, we come.

2

Installation in a stone house

Heat pump, emitters and hot water, opening no more wall than necessary, and registration with the Industry department under the RITE.

3

The grant and servicing

With your authorisation we file and justify FACTOR 2026; you sign and the grant goes to your account. Servicing: the RITE's, or the manufacturer's if it asks for more.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Campanet

Winters in Campanet are colder than on the coast: does a heat pump still perform?

In Campanet, yes. Heat pumps are designed to work in the cold: the seasonal SCOP of a Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, is 3.72 (official Daitsu catalogue 2024-25), meaning about 3.7 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity on average over the year. What helps most in a stone house is working at low temperature, with underfloor heating or well-sized radiators.

I have a country house in Campanet with an oil boiler: what does switching involve?

On a country house in Campanet it means removing the boiler, tank and refills, and fitting a heat pump that also gives hot water and air conditioning. Existing radiators or underfloor heating are reused. According to IDAE, each degree lower on the thermostat also saves about 7 %.

Does the heat pump frost up on winter mornings in Campanet?

It can happen: with cold, damp air the outdoor coil frosts and the unit runs an automatic defrost. Of these four northern villages, Campanet has the coolest winter: in the typical year PVGIS calculates (ERA5 2005-2020), December to February averages 9.6 °C. That's why we leave the outdoor unit ventilated, raised off the ground and with a drain for the defrost water, and size it from the heat loads, as the RITE requires.

Where does the outdoor unit go on a country house?

On a Campanet finca: in a courtyard, by a wall or on an outbuilding roof: with open air around it so it can breathe, away from windows and neighbours, on a firm base. Where there are leaves or dust, the heat exchanger is checked at every service. On a Daitsu, for example, the minimum clearances are set by its installation manual.

Can I combine a heat pump with solar panels on a finca in Campanet?

Yes, and it saves the most: in Campanet each solar kWp yields about 1,558 kWh a year according to the typical year calculated by PVGIS, and Daitsu units, for example, are Smart Grid Ready with Modbus RTU as standard, so the heat pump can run when there's spare sun. The solar part can also get the 50 % IBI rebate for 5 tax years. We legalise the solar part as an authorised low-voltage electrical installer.

My country house in Campanet is on protected land: can I have a heat pump?

Campanet is one of the municipalities of the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (PORN, Decree 19/2007), and the Fonts Ufanes Natural Monument (Decree 111/2001) is in its area. If the house is on protected land, before placing the outdoor unit or digging trenches we check that plan and the town-hall permit. Then, the servicing the RITE or the manufacturer requires, whichever is stricter.
