A heat pump for your home in Santa Margalida

In the village and on the fincas, what weighs most is winter heating and year-round hot water; in Can Picafort, summer air conditioning. The same technology solves both.

Hot water: the load that never stops

Hot water is used 365 days a year. With a heat pump, a storage cylinder and a hydraulic module properly placed in the plant room (like the one in the photo, a Daitsu Hydro-Box) heat it with a fraction of an electric water heater's energy.

Village and fincas: goodbye oil and butane

Without mains gas, village houses and fincas rely on oil or butane. The heat pump replaces them, uses radiators or underfloor heating for warmth and, if there are panels, runs when there's spare sun.

Can Picafort: summer home

On the coast, air conditioning and hot water for the season. The outdoor unit is protected from salt and cooling comes from ducts, fan coils or splits; underfloor heating is only for heating.

Son Real and the municipal coastline

On the coast of Santa Margalida lies the Son Real public estate: 391.8 hectares bought by the Balearic Government in 2002, with the Son Real necropolis from the Talayotic and post-Talayotic period. Houses near the sea, in Can Picafort or Son Serra de Marina, live with salt air: the outdoor unit is protected and checked at every service.

In numbers

Village and coast: two climates in Santa Margalida

The European Commission's PVGIS calculates a typical year for each point from ERA5 data for 2005-2020. In Santa Margalida village the coldest month of that year is January, averaging 10.3 °C, and the warmest August, at 26.0 °C. In Can Picafort, by the sea, December to February averages 12.8 °C and July reaches 25.9 °C. These are averages of calculated years, not readings from a station.

That split matches what we see: in the village and on the fincas, heating and year-round hot water weigh most; in Can Picafort, the summer-season air conditioning. A heat pump with a cylinder covers both, and because hot water is used every day the unit also works through spring and autumn, not just in the peak months.

For heating, IDAE reckons each extra degree costs about 7 % more consumption; 21 °C is its comfort reference.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Santa Margalida

In Santa Margalida, as everywhere in the Balearics, a home heat pump goes through FACTOR 2026: 70 % for individuals, calculated on at most €1,000/kWt of output (with €450/kWt extra for new distribution) and never above €25,000 per installation. It runs until 28 February 2027 and is decided in order of arrival. Air-to-air units in homes don't qualify, an SPF above 2.5 is required, and so is domicile in the Balearic Islands: if the Can Picafort apartment belongs to someone who doesn't live here, tell us about the case first.

Santa Margalida's ICIO rebate is for solar energy; the IBI rebate for solar panels doesn't appear in the bylaw as published today. If you combine with panels, see solar panels in Santa Margalida.

Main home or let? If the efficiency improvement is certified and the work is finished in 2026, by 31 December at the latest, there may be an income-tax (IRPF) deduction, which you claim in your return with our invoices and certificates.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Santa Margalida, in 3 steps

1

Photos of the plant room

By WhatsApp or email: photos of how you heat the water and the house today, the room where the module and cylinder would go and the spot for the outdoor unit. From the heat loads, as the RITE requires, come the output and the saving. If it needs seeing, we come to Santa Margalida or Can Picafort.

2

Tidy installation and legalisation

Heat pump, cylinder and emitters, with the plant room accessible for servicing, and registration with the Industry department under the RITE.

3

The grant, in your name

We file and justify FACTOR 2026 with your authorisation; you sign and receive the grant. Servicing: what the RITE or the manufacturer asks for, whichever is stricter.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Santa Margalida

Is a heat pump worth it just for hot water in Santa Margalida?

In Santa Margalida, for year-round hot water it usually is, because it's a daily load. For example, a heat pump with a SCOP of 3.72 (Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, official catalogue 2024-25) gives about 3.7 kWh of heat per kWh of electricity, against 1 kWh from an electric water heater. If the house also needs heating, the same unit does it all.

Does Santa Margalida village need more output than Can Picafort?

Maybe a little, but each house's calculation decides. In the PVGIS typical year (ERA5 2005-2020) the village winter is slightly cooler: December to February averages 12.0 °C against 12.8 °C in Can Picafort. What rules is the house: insulation, windows and floor area, with the heat loads the RITE requires.

I have an apartment in Can Picafort: where does the outdoor unit go?

In Can Picafort, wherever the owners' association and municipal rules allow: terrace, roof or courtyard, with enough ventilation and away from the neighbours' windows. On the seafront it's protected from salt. Cooling goes through ducts, fan coils or splits. Everything is sized from the house's heat loads, as the RITE requires.

Can I cool the house with underfloor heating?

It exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor gets condensation. Underfloor heating is for heating; in summer, fan coils, ducts or split units run by the same heat pump do the cooling. And in winter, according to IDAE, each degree lower on the thermostat saves about 7 %.

Can a heat pump in Santa Margalida work with solar panels?

Yes, and it's the combination that saves most: Daitsu units, for example, are Smart Grid Ready and come with Modbus RTU as standard (official catalogue 2024-25), so the heat pump can be set to run when there's spare sun. The solar part can also get the 95 % ICIO rebate in Santa Margalida. We legalise the solar part as an authorised low-voltage electrical installer.

What servicing does a heat pump need in Can Picafort or Son Serra, near the sea?

In Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina, as everywhere: what the RITE requires or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's, always the stricter. Near the sea we also check the outdoor unit for salt at every visit: casing, coil and connections. We do it ourselves as a RITE-registered thermal installer.
