Heat pumps in Mallorca
How a heat pump, COP and the multi-hybrid work, in detail.

We are Joaquín and Juan. We install air-to-water heat pumps in Algaida, in Pina, in Randa and in the country houses of the municipality: heating, hot water and cooling from one heat pump, instead of heating oil, bottled gas or firewood. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer: calculation, installation, legalisation and grant, all with us. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
The Spanish Building Code divides the Balearic Islands by altitude: up to 250 m, climate zone B3; above that, C3, with a more demanding winter (CTE DB-HE, annex B). The municipality of Algaida has both.
Algaida sits at around 200 metres and Pina at around 150: both below the limit, in B3, like Palma. Even so, January nights are colder than in the city: a mean minimum of 8.5 °C against Palma's 9.6 °C, according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020).
Randa is above 300 metres, on the hillside, and already falls in C3. For the same house, heating asks for more than on the plain, and that shows when sizing the heat pump and the emitters.
Almost four in ten residents of the municipality live in scattered homes (INE, 2025). In those houses, the heat pump replaces the boiler, supplies the hot water and leaves the fireplace for when you fancy it. The outdoor unit is placed away from the bedrooms and sheltered from the wind.
In numbers
With heating oil, bottled gas or firewood, each unit of heat comes from burning one of fuel, or more. A heat pump delivers several for each one of electricity: the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, has a SCOP of 3.72 according to its official 2024-25 catalogue. The more heating hours, the more that difference weighs, and in Randa there are more than on the plain. We work with every brand.
The output isn't copied from the neighbour's house: it is calculated from the thermal loads, as the RITE requires, and with the climate zone that applies, B3 or C3. After that, use decides: IDAE puts the consumption of each extra degree at around 7%; 21 °C is comfortable and bedrooms need only 15-17 °C.
Grants
FACTOR 2026 subsidises a private individual's heat pump at 70%: up to €1,000 per kWt of heat pump and €450/kWt more for new distribution, without exceeding €25,000 per installation. You can apply until 28 February 2027, while budget remains. An SPF above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands are needed; air-to-air units in homes are left out.
If the work improves the home's energy efficiency and is certified, the energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
If you also want photovoltaics, Algaida's ICIO bylaw gives a rebate on the solar installation: see solar panels in Algaida.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and, afterwards, the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
From the location we know whether the house is in B3 or in C3, and from photos and floor areas we calculate the thermal loads, as the RITE requires.
We install the heat pump and the tank, connect radiators, underfloor heating or fan coils and legalise under the RITE. Servicing: as the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, as the manufacturer says.
With your authorisation we submit FACTOR 2026 and the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and receive the grant in your account.
Common questions
It depends on the village. The Spanish Building Code (CTE DB-HE, annex B) puts the Balearic Islands in B3 up to 250 m of altitude and in C3 above that. Algaida, at around 200 m, and Pina, at around 150, are in B3; Randa, above 300 m, in C3. That's why the heat pump's output is calculated house by house, from the thermal loads the RITE requires.
In a country house in Algaida you gain heat throughout the house at once, hot water from the same unit and cooling in summer through fan coils or ducts. On efficiency, a heat pump such as the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid declares a SCOP of 3.72 (official 2024-25 catalogue): about 3.7 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity. The fireplace can stay for the days you fancy it.
Yes. Randa is in zone C3 of the Spanish Building Code (above 250 m in the Balearics; CTE DB-HE, annex B), with more winter than the plain, but a long way from the temperatures at which a heat pump stops working. What changes is the calculation: more heating hours and, sometimes, slightly larger emitters. In cold, damp weather the outdoor unit defrosts; that's normal.
70% to a private individual: at most €1,000 per kWt of heat pump and €450/kWt more for new distribution, with a cap of €25,000 per installation (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026). The deadline runs until 28 February 2027 while there is budget. It requires an SPF above 2.5 and a home address in the Balearic Islands.
It exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor condenses, inland too. Underfloor heating heats, and for summer the same heat pump feeds fan coils, ducts or splits; in Algaida mean August maximums are around 31 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020).
It has to be looked at beforehand. A heat pump adds electrical consumption, and in a country house in Algaida with little contracted power it may be necessary to increase it or to lean on solar panels. We are also an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: we check the consumer unit and the supply line, under the REBT, in the same study.
