Algaida: three villages and a lot of country houses

The municipality of Algaida covers almost 90 km² and has three villages. According to INE's Nomenclátor (2025), of its 6,421 residents, 2,492 live in scattered homes outside them: almost four in ten. Here the typical installation is not a village roof but a house on rural land.

Algaida and Pina, on the plain

PVGIS gives Algaida about 1,546 kWh per kWp a year and Pina, 1,527. Open ground, with no relief to block the winter sun: December stays at 95-96 kWh per kWp.

Randa, at the foot of the hill

Randa sits at around 325 metres, on the slope of the Puig de Randa. There the relief does count: PVGIS gives 1,511 kWh per kWp a year and, in December, 84 instead of 96. That's why in Randa we run PVGIS with the coordinates of the house before giving you a figure.

Houses on rural land

The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 treats self-consumption as a permitted use in lawful buildings on rural land. With room to spare, the panels go on a porch, on an outbuilding or on the ground; and if the house has a well or uses well or cistern water, the pump and the treatment go into the calculation.

In numbers

What a solar panel produces in Algaida (in numbers)

PVGIS (European Commission) query of 1 Oct 2026, with panels at 35° south and 14% losses: Algaida, 1,546 kWh a year per kWp; Pina, 1,527; Randa, 1,511. Palma gives 1,572. With 3 kWp in Algaida that comes to about 4,640 kWh a year.

The difference between the three villages is in winter. In December, Algaida gives 96 kWh per kWp and Randa 84: the hillside cuts about an eighth off the low winter sun. In July all three are around 158-159.

For an off-grid house that matters: the batteries are sized on the worst month, not on the yearly average.

Grants

Grants and local taxes in Algaida

ICIO (building-works tax): Algaida's bylaw (art. 4, BOIB no. 171 of 2022) gives a 50% rebate on the cost of the solar installation. IBI (property tax): the published bylaw (BOIB no. 161 of 2017) has no rebate for panels. We'll check it at the Town Council for you before you decide.

FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call opens on 26 January and closes on 30 April 2027, or earlier if its €2 million run out. You apply before work starts and with a home address in the Balearic Islands. Batteries now have FACTOR 2026 (45%, until 28 February 2027). For an off-grid system, both require proof that the site is lawful.

If the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the self-consumption income-tax deduction (DA 62ª) is 10%, up to €500. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and, afterwards, the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Algaida, in 3 steps

1

PVGIS with your coordinates

With an electricity bill, photos and the exact location we run PVGIS for your house: in Algaida and Pina it changes little, in Randa it can change quite a lot.

2

Rules for your plot

We look at what Algaida Town Council requires in your case, village or rural land, and file the prior notification or whatever applies.

3

Installation, legalisation and grants

We install, legalise the self-consumption (RD 244/2019) and prepare the paperwork for the ICIO and for whichever grant is open.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Algaida

Do panels produce the same in Algaida, in Pina and in Randa?

Almost, but not quite. According to PVGIS (European Commission, 35° south, 14% losses), Algaida gives about 1,546 kWh per kWp a year, Pina 1,527 and Randa 1,511. The difference is in winter: in December Randa gives 84 kWh per kWp and Algaida 96, because the slope of the Puig de Randa blocks part of the low sun.

I have a country house in Algaida: can I put panels on rural land?

Yes. The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 treats self-consumption as a permitted use in lawful buildings on rural land, and on the roof a prior notification is enough (Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e). In the municipality of Algaida, 2,492 of its 6,421 residents live in scattered homes (INE, 2025): it is the most common installation here.

Is there an IBI or ICIO rebate in Algaida for the panels?

For the ICIO, yes: Algaida's bylaw (art. 4, BOIB no. 171 of 2022) gives a 50% rebate on the cost of the solar installation. For the IBI, the published bylaw (BOIB no. 161 of 2017) has no solar rebate. We'll check both at the Town Council for you before you decide.

My house in Randa has no mains electricity: how are the batteries sized?

On December. In Randa, PVGIS gives 84 kWh per kWp that month, quite a lot less than Algaida's 96, so more panels are needed for the same house. With that figure and with what you use in winter we work out the panels and the kWh of battery. If you apply for a grant for an off-grid system, you must prove the site is lawful.

When can I apply for FOTOPAR for a house in Algaida?

The 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027 or until its €2 million run out (BOIB no. 171 of 25-12-2025), and you have to apply before work starts. It requires a home address in the Balearic Islands. Separately, if the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the 10% income-tax deduction applies, up to €500.

Who legalises a solar installation in Algaida?

We do. We are an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: we sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption under RD 244/2019 with the Balearic Government. With that registration you apply for the ICIO rebate at Algaida Town Council and for the grants.
