Solar panels in Mallorca
How self-consumption, batteries and payback work, in detail.

We install solar panels and self-consumption, with or without batteries, on village houses in Petra and on the fincas of its municipality, from the Manacor road to the road up to Bonany. We are an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: study, installation, legalisation and grant paperwork, with no middlemen.

Your area
Petra's municipality covers 70 km² and has just over 3,200 residents; according to INE's Nomenclátor (2025), 432 live outside the village, in country houses. They are two different installations: the roof of a terraced house, and a finca with room to spare.
On a terraced house the usable roof is the pitch that faces south, and sometimes the flat roof or the roof of the porch in the back yard. The panels go flush with the tiles, without sticking out, and the inverter is placed indoors, somewhere ventilated and close to the consumer unit.
On a finca in Petra, a good part of the electricity goes on the well pump, the irrigation and the pool filtration, and all of that can be put to work in the sunny hours. If you also drink well or cistern water, the treatment unit runs off the panels too.
The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 treats self-consumption as a permitted use in lawful buildings on rural land. In an off-grid house, the panels and batteries are sized on December: in Petra, 96 kWh per kWp according to PVGIS, 61% of what July gives.
In numbers
According to PVGIS, the European Commission's tool (query of 1 Oct 2026, 35° south, 14% losses), in Petra each installed kWp gives about 1,538 kWh a year; in Palma, 1,572. The difference is 2%. A 3 kWp home system comes to around 4,600 kWh a year.
By month: July gives about 159 kWh per kWp and December, 96. In the Pla there are no mountains to block the winter sun: what counts is the orientation of the roof and nearby shade, a chimney or the neighbour's house.
The saving is in what you use while you produce: every kWh from your panels is one you don't buy. That's why the first thing we ask for is an electricity bill, to see at what times you use power.
Grants
IBI (property tax): Petra's IBI bylaw (art. 3.6, BOIB no. 19 of 05-02-2022) gives a rebate of 25% of the tax for two tax periods on properties with a photovoltaic system of at least 3 kW. If your house needs less output, you don't reach the minimum: it's worth knowing before sizing. Petra's building-works tax (ICIO) bylaw has no solar rebate. We'll check the deadlines for applying in the bylaw in force.
FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026. The 2027 call opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027 or until its €2 million run out, and you must apply before work starts. It requires a home address in the Balearic Islands. For batteries, FACTOR 2026 is open (45%, until 28 February 2027), which does not cover a private individual's panels; you cannot claim both for the same thing.
If the system is paid for and finished in 2026, the self-consumption income-tax deduction (DA 62ª) is 10%, up to €500. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and, afterwards, the proof of expenditure; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
With an electricity bill, a few photos of the roof or the land and the location, we use PVGIS to calculate what you'd produce month by month in Petra and what output makes sense.
We install on a frame designed for wind and legalise the self-consumption (RD 244/2019) with the electrical installation certificate.
We prepare the technical documents for applying for the IBI rebate at Petra Town Council and, with your authorisation, file whichever grant is open.
Common questions
According to PVGIS, the European Commission's tool (35° south, 14% losses), each kWp installed in Petra gives about 1,538 kWh a year, 2% less than Palma (1,572). July gives about 159 kWh per kWp and December 96. A 3 kWp system comes to around 4,600 kWh a year.
Yes. Petra's IBI bylaw (art. 3.6, BOIB no. 19 of 05-02-2022) gives 25% off the tax for two tax periods if the photovoltaic system has at least 3 kW. Petra's building-works tax (ICIO) has no solar rebate. Before deciding the output we'll check the bylaw in force and its deadlines for you.
Yes. The well pump and the irrigation are scheduled for the sunny hours, which is when the panels produce: in Petra, about 159 kWh per kWp in July according to PVGIS, just when most watering is done. We look at the pump's power and its start-up to choose the inverter, and leave the system legalised as self-consumption (RD 244/2019).
In the Balearic Islands, panels on a building's roof only need a prior notification, not a licence (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e). A licence is needed if the building is listed or a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), or if the structure is affected. In the centre of Petra we look at the municipal heritage catalogue with you first.
Yes. The Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 allows self-consumption in lawful buildings on rural land. The system is sized on the worst month: in Petra, December gives 96 kWh per kWp according to PVGIS. If you apply for FACTOR 2026 for the batteries of an off-grid system, the rules require proof that the site is lawful.
We do. We are an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: we sign the electrical installation certificate and register the self-consumption under RD 244/2019 with the Balearic Government. That gives you the paperwork Petra Town Council requires for the IBI rebate and that the grant calls ask for.
