Air conditioning in Llubí: cooling in summer, heating in winter

Many houses in Llubí have no central heating: stoves, bottled gas and the odd electric radiator. An inverter split takes care of both seasons with a single unit. We fit splits, multi-splits and ducted units in the village and in the countryside. We are Joaquín and Juan, a RITE-registered installer also certified for F-gases: we don't subcontract anyone.

What a house in Llubí needs

Llubí is on the plain, below 100 metres of altitude. On PVGIS data (ERA5 reanalysis, 2011-2020), mean August maximums are around 31 °C and January minimums, around 8.2 °C. The same unit serves both extremes.

In place of the stove

A split heats a room in minutes and on a fraction of what an electric radiator uses. For a house with no central heating, one in the living room and another in the main bedroom change the winter.

Country houses

In the countryside there is room to spare for the outdoor unit, but there is dust and leaves: it is placed raised off the ground, in the shade if possible, and with access for cleaning it.

With solar panels

Air conditioning uses power above all in the sunny hours, which is when the panels produce. In Llubí, moreover, the Town Council gives an IBI rebate for photovoltaics.

Where the saving is in a Llubí house

An inverter doesn't start and stop: it modulates. That's why we fit inverter units, and why it pays to let it run steadily instead of switching it on flat out and then off. A manufacturer's figure, as an example: SEER 9.2 for the General ASEH09KJCAL. We work with every brand.

In heating, a split delivers several times the electricity it uses; an electric radiator, one for one. IDAE recommends 21 °C in winter and 26 °C in summer, and puts each degree of difference at 7%. The output, from the thermal loads of each room, as the RITE requires.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about air conditioning in Llubí

Can I heat my Llubí house with air conditioning alone?

A small house, or the rooms you use most, yes. A split is a heat pump: it gives several times in heat the electricity it uses. In Llubí the mean January minimum is around 8.2 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020). For a whole large house with hot water included, the right answer is an air-to-water heat pump.

Which uses less in winter: the split or the electric radiator?

The split, by a wide margin: the radiator turns each kWh of electricity into one kWh of heat, and a heat pump delivers several. In addition, IDAE reckons 7% of consumption for each degree: in a Llubí house, 21 °C by day and less in the bedrooms.

Does air conditioning qualify for the FACTOR 2026 grant?

Not in homes: the FACTOR 2026 rules (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026) exclude air-to-air units in homes. The grant is for air-to-water heat pumps, at 70%. If you want heating and hot water with a grant in your Llubí house, we explain it on the heat pump page.

Where does the outdoor unit go in a country house?

Raised off the ground, with open air around it, in the shade if possible and away from the bedrooms. In the Llubí countryside dust and dead leaves get in: it is left with access for cleaning the coil. The noise, within the Balearic Noise Act 1/2007.

What temperature do I set it to in summer?

26 °C, which is what IDAE recommends; each degree lower costs around 7% more. In Llubí mean August maximums are around 31 °C according to PVGIS (ERA5, 2011-2020): with the shutters down at midday, the unit works well within itself.

How often is it serviced?

The stricter of the regulations and the manufacturer applies. The RITE (IT 3.3, table 3.1) sets, in homes and up to 12 kW, a service every 4 years as a minimum, and the manual asks for the filters to be cleaned every few weeks. If the split in your Llubí house works in summer and in winter, it does twice the hours: it's best not to stretch it.
