Solar panels in Port de Pollença,
between the mountains and the bay.

Port de Pollença (Puerto Pollensa) is about six kilometres from the town, at the northern end of the bay, with the Serra de Tramuntana behind it and Formentor next door. We install solar panels and self-consumption systems, with or without batteries, on villas, apartments and businesses in the Port. We are an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: survey, installation, legalisation and paperwork, with no middlemen.

Your area

The Port: good sun, north wind and protected areas on either side

Here the installation is decided by three things that matter less in the town: the wind, the salt and what lies next to the house. On one side the protected mountains begin, on the other a nature reserve.

Tramontana and salt air on the seafront

The Port is open to the bay and takes the north wind full on. The frame is calculated for wind under the Spanish Building Code (CTE DB SE-AE), the fixings are stainless and the panels have the IEC 61701 salt-mist test on their datasheet. In the buildings along the promenade the protection easement of the Coastal Act (Ley 22/1988) also counts: in those put up with a licence before 1988 that fall inside it, improvement works are allowed as long as they don't increase volume, height or floor area.

Towards Formentor and the Bóquer valley

Leaving the Port to the north you enter the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (Paraje Natural), with its management plan (Decree 19/2007), within the landscape UNESCO inscribed in 2011. A house there is usually on protected rural land: before designing we check what its rules allow and, if it can be done, the panels go on the roof and out of sight.

Towards Alcúdia: s'Albufereta

On the other side, between the Port and Alcúdia, lies the s'Albufereta nature reserve (Decree 121/2001). In the developments along that stretch of the bay the house is usually on urban land and nothing changes, but on a property bordering the reserve we check first.

In numbers

What a solar panel produces in Port de Pollença

According to PVGIS (European Commission; a typical year calculated from satellite data, not a measurement; queried on 1 October 2026, 35° south, 14 % losses), each kWp yields about 1,525 kWh a year in the Port, slightly more than in Pollença town (1,511) because the mountains are further away. A 3 kWp system comes to around 4,580 kWh a year.

The worst month in the Port is November, with 88 kWh per kWp, 54 % of July (164). In Palma the worst month gives 59 %. It's the effect of the horizon: the low winter sun disappears earlier behind the mountains. Anyone who lives here all year and wants batteries has to size for November and December, not for the average.

From June to September, on the other hand, each kWp yields about 605 kWh, almost 40 % of the year: for a house that is used or let in summer, production falls where the consumption is.

Grants

IBI, ICIO and grants in the Port (Pollença)

IBI (property tax): the Port is part of the municipality of Pollença, whose bylaw gives a 50 % IBI rebate for up to 3 years for installing solar energy. You apply before 31 March and each year the rebate can't exceed 33 % of what the installation cost (art. 15.4, BOIB no. 175 of 28-12-2023).

ICIO (construction tax): a 75 % rebate on the solar part of the budget (art. 4.2, BOIB no. 203 of 03-12-2020).

FOTOPAR 2027 opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027 (the 2026 call closed on 30 April); you must apply before the work starts and it requires domicile in the Balearic Islands: with a second home you normally won't qualify. Batteries can go through FACTOR 2026 (45 %, open until 28 February 2027), but not both grants for the same thing.

If it is paid for and finished in 2026, the income-tax (IRPF) deduction for self-consumption (62nd additional provision of the Income Tax Act, Ley 35/2006) is 10 % (up to €500), or 20 % (up to €1,000) if the installation is on a residential building. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over. If you pay tax as a non-resident, ask your tax adviser first.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Port de Pollença, in 3 steps

1

Bill, photos and location

With your bills and photos of the roof we work out what fits and what it produces according to PVGIS at your exact spot, and whether the house falls within the natural area or next to the reserve.

2

Installation and legalisation

A frame calculated for the tramontana, materials for a marine environment and legalisation of the self-consumption system (RD 244/2019) with its electrical installation certificate.

3

IBI before 31 March

We prepare the paperwork for Pollença's IBI and ICIO rebates and, with your authorisation, whichever grant is open.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Port de Pollença

Do solar panels produce less in Port de Pollença because of the mountains behind?

Over the year, hardly: according to the typical year calculated by PVGIS (European Commission, queried on 1 October 2026), 1,525 kWh per kWp in Port de Pollença against 1,572 in Palma, 3 % less. The difference is in winter: the worst month, November, gives 88 kWh per kWp, 54 % of July, whereas in Palma the worst month gives 59 %. The Serra de Tramuntana blocks the low sun. It is offset by choosing the roof slope and the spot on the roof.

My house is on the way to Formentor: can I have solar panels?

It depends on exactly where it falls. North of Port de Pollença the Serra de Tramuntana Natural Area (Paraje Natural) begins, regulated by Decree 19/2007, and there the land is usually protected rural land: the first thing is to see what its plan allows on your plot. On the roof of a legal house and out of sight is the easiest to fit in. We check before giving you a quote.

Will a solar installation stand up to the tramontana in Port de Pollença?

Yes, if it's calculated for it. In Port de Pollença the frame is sized for wind under the Spanish Building Code (CTE DB SE-AE), with panels flush or very low on a flat roof, stainless fixings and modules with the IEC 61701 salt-mist test. We also read the manufacturer's manual, which says how many fixing points it requires and how close to the sea the warranty still applies.

What IBI rebate do I get in Port de Pollença for installing solar panels?

Pollença's: 50 % of the IBI for up to 3 years, applied for before 31 March, with each year's rebate not exceeding 33 % of the installation cost (art. 15.4, BOIB no. 175 of 28-12-2023). The construction tax (ICIO) also has a 75 % rebate on the solar part (BOIB no. 203 of 03-12-2020). It applies in the Port just as in the town.

I live in the United Kingdom and the house in Port de Pollença is a holiday home: are there grants?

FOTOPAR 2027 opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027 (BOIB no. 171 of 25-12-2025) and requires domicile in the Balearic Islands, so with a holiday home in Port de Pollença you normally won't qualify. Pollença's IBI rebate, on the other hand, goes with the home. And from June to September one kWp yields about 605 kWh according to PVGIS, almost 40 % of the year.

I spend the winter in Port de Pollença: is a battery worth it?

It can be, if it's sized for the weak months. In Port de Pollença November and December give about 88 kWh per kWp according to PVGIS, little more than half of July (164). A battery calculated from the yearly average falls short just then. We look at your winter bills and, if you live here, the battery can go through FACTOR 2026 (45 %, until 28 February 2027).
