Heat pumps · Santa Ponsa

Heat pumps in Santa Ponsa,
for the year-round home.

We're Joaquín and Juan. In Santa Ponsa, Nova Santa Ponsa and Costa de la Calma we install air-to-water heat pumps: one unit that gives you heating, hot water and, with fan coils, cooling. There are many large villas here that are lived in twelve months a year and are still heated with oil. RITE-registered thermal installer; we don't subcontract anyone.

What a heat pump has to deliver in a Santa Ponsa villa

A villa in Nova Santa Ponsa isn't a summer apartment: it's a lot of floor area, several bathrooms, sometimes two storeys and a family inside in January. The system is designed for winter and made use of in summer.

From heating oil to a heat pump

The oil boiler is replaced by an air-to-water heat pump with its tank. If the house has underfloor heating, all the better: it works with low-temperature water, which is where it performs best. If it has radiators, we calculate room by room whether they will do or whether it's better to replace them with fan coils.

Large houses: zones and several temperatures

In a two-storey house not everything is used at once. Zoning, with a thermostat in each zone, avoids heating empty guest bedrooms. The output comes from the heat loads of the house, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), not from adding up square metres.

Cooling by fan coils or ducts

The same heat pump provides summer cooling by sending chilled water to fan coils or to a ducted system. Underfloor heating is for heating: cooling never goes through the floor, because in Mallorca it causes condensation.

In numbers

Where the saving comes from compared with heating oil

An oil boiler delivers a little less than the energy it burns. A heat pump takes heat from the air: the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, declares a SCOP of 3.72 and a COP of up to 4.24 in its official 2024-25 catalogue, that is, about 3.7 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity over the season.

The thermostat and the timer do the rest. According to IDAE, Spain's energy agency, each extra degree of heating raises consumption by about 7 %; 21 °C by day and 15-17 °C in bedrooms are enough. And if the villa has solar panels, the heat pump can make the hot water at midday with their electricity.

Grants

Heat pump grants in Santa Ponsa

FACTOR 2026 (Balearic Government): 70 % for individuals, counting at most €1,000/kWt (plus €450/kWt if a new distribution system, such as fan coils or underfloor heating, goes in too) and capped at €25,000 per installation. Open until 28 February 2027 or until the budget runs out; it requires a seasonal performance (SPF) above 2.5, doesn't cover air-to-air units in homes and requires domicile in the Balearic Islands, so a second home is usually left out.

Calvià's IBI (property tax) rebate is for solar energy, not heat pumps. If you add panels at the same time, see solar panels in Santa Ponsa.

If the work improves the home's energy efficiency and is certified, the Spanish energy-efficiency income-tax deduction may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work

How we do it in Santa Ponsa, in 3 steps

1

The house and the boiler

We look at what boiler and emitters you have, how much heating oil you use a year and how the house is used, floor by floor.

2

Sizing and installation

Heat loads, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1); heat pump, tank and emitters; removal of the boiler and legalisation with the Industry department.

3

Grant and set-up

If you live here, we file FACTOR 2026 with your authorisation. Servicing: whatever the RITE (IT 3.3) requires or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about heat pumps in Santa Ponsa

I have an oil boiler in my villa in Santa Ponsa: what changes when I switch to a heat pump?

The boiler and the oil tank come out and an air-to-water heat pump with its storage tank goes in. In a Santa Ponsa villa what decides it is which emitters there are: with underfloor heating the change is direct; with radiators we calculate whether they are enough. The Daitsu Multi-Hybrid, for example, declares a SCOP of 3.72, about 3.7 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity.

I live in Santa Ponsa all year: how much does the FACTOR 2026 grant cover?

For an individual domiciled in the Balearic Islands, 70 % of the cost, counting at most €1,000/kWt of output, plus €450/kWt if a new distribution system goes in, and capped at €25,000 per installation (BOIB no. 83 of 2-7-2026). It is open until 28 February 2027, requires an SPF above 2.5 and doesn't cover air-to-air units. In Santa Ponsa we handle it with your authorisation.

Can a heat pump heat a large villa in Nova Santa Ponsa?

Yes, by sizing it from the heat loads of the house, as the RITE requires (IT 1.2.4.1.1), and dividing it into zones each with its thermostat. In a two-storey villa in Nova Santa Ponsa there's no need to heat everything at once. According to IDAE, 21 °C by day and 15-17 °C in bedrooms are enough, and each extra degree raises consumption by about 7 %.

Can I cool my house in Santa Ponsa with the underfloor heating?

It exists, but in Mallorca we don't offer it: here, with the humidity, a cold floor gets condensation, so our underfloor heating only heats. In a house in Santa Ponsa summer cooling comes from fan coils or ducts, run by the same heat pump. The RITE (IT 1.1.4.1.2) takes 23-25 °C with 45-60 % humidity as summer comfort, and the fan coil also dries the air.

I have solar panels on my house in Santa Ponsa: do they work with a heat pump?

Yes, and that's where it shows most. In Santa Ponsa each kWp produces about 1,602 kWh a year according to PVGIS, and the heat pump can make the hot water and charge the tank at midday, with that electricity. With a Daitsu Multi-Hybrid with a SCOP of 3.72, for example, each solar kWh becomes about 3.7 kWh of heat.

Is the outdoor unit noisy in a residential development in Santa Ponsa?

Not much, if it's well chosen and well placed. The Balearic noise pollution act (Law 1/2007, arts. 9 and 11) and Calvià's bylaw set the limits inside the neighbour's home, and each manufacturer declares the sound power on its datasheet. On a plot in Santa Ponsa we look for the side away from the bedrooms, yours and other people's, and a mount that doesn't pass on vibration.
