Solar panels in Mallorca
How self-consumption, batteries and payback work, in detail.
See the full guide →Solar panels · Artà
Artà is an inland town with 25 kilometres of almost undeveloped coast: the old town below Sant Salvador, the fincas in the natural park and, on the other side of the mountains, the Colònia de Sant Pere and Betlem. We install solar panels and self-consumption systems, with or without batteries. We are an authorised low-voltage electrical installer: survey, installation, legalisation and paperwork, with no middlemen.

Your area
Within a few kilometres the sun, the rules and the type of house all change. You don't design the same way for a house in the old town as for a finca in the park or a villa in the Colònia.
Terraced houses with tiled roofs: flush panels on the slope with the most sun. The walled enclosure of Sant Salvador is a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spanish Heritage Act 16/1985, second additional provision): if the house is within its protected surroundings, the works first need the authorisation of the Island Heritage Commission (Balearic Heritage Act 12/1998, art. 37). We check that first.
A good part of the municipality lies in the Parc natural de la península de Llevant (Decree 127/2001, extended by Decree 8/2023) and in the protected areas of the Muntanyes d'Artà and Sa Canova. There we first check what the park's plan allows, and the panels go on the roof of the house or of an existing outbuilding. Many of those fincas have no grid connection: we fit off-grid solar with batteries, sized for the worst month.
Founded in 1880, the Colònia faces north, onto the bay of Alcúdia, with the mountains behind. It has salt air, tramontana and less winter sun than the town: panels with the IEC 61701 salt-mist test, a frame calculated for wind (CTE DB SE-AE) and, on the seafront, the easement of the Coastal Act (Ley 22/1988).
In numbers
According to PVGIS (European Commission; a typical year calculated from satellite data, not a measurement; queried on 1 October 2026, 35° south, 14 % losses), each kWp yields about 1,544 kWh a year in Artà and about 1,503 in the Colònia de Sant Pere. A 3 kWp system comes to around 4,630 kWh in the town and 4,510 in the Colònia.
The difference is in winter. In Artà the worst month, November, gives 57 % of July; in the Colònia, December gives 88 kWh per kWp, 54 %. PVGIS takes the horizon into account: the mountains the Colònia has to the south block the low sun. For a house lived in in winter, or for an off-grid finca, the system is sized for that month.
The saving lies in what you use while you produce. On a finca with no grid, moreover, every kWh not used at night is battery you don't have to fit: first the consumption is adjusted and then the system is sized.
Grants
IBI (property tax): Artà's bylaw gives a 50 % IBI rebate for 3 tax years, with a maximum of €300 a year, but only for a main home: it leaves out holiday-let homes and requires at least 2,500 Wp on a single-family house (art. 5è.7, BOIB no. 5 of 2026). On the ICIO (construction tax), Artà has no rebate for solar panels (BOIB no. 173 of 2023).
FOTOPAR 2027 opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027 (the 2026 call closed on 30 April); you must apply before the work starts and it requires domicile in the Balearic Islands: with a second home you normally won't qualify. Batteries can go through FACTOR 2026 (45 %, open until 28 February 2027), but not both grants for the same thing.
On an off-grid finca, FACTOR also requires proof that the site is legal. If it is paid for and finished in 2026, the income-tax (IRPF) deduction for self-consumption (62nd additional provision of the Income Tax Act, Ley 35/2006) is 10 % (up to €500), or 20 % (up to €1,000) if the installation is on a residential building. Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
With the address or the cadastral reference we see whether it falls within the surroundings of Sant Salvador, in the natural park or on the seafront of the Colònia, and what it produces according to PVGIS.
Flush panels on tiles or on an existing outbuilding, a frame calculated for wind and legalisation of the self-consumption system (RD 244/2019), grid-connected or off-grid.
If it's your main home, we prepare the documents for Artà's IBI rebate and, with your authorisation, whichever grant is open.

Common questions
Yes, for a main home: Artà's bylaw gives a 50 % IBI rebate for 3 tax years, capped at €300 a year, and on a single-family house requires at least 2,500 Wp installed (art. 5è.7, BOIB no. 5 of 2026). Holiday-let homes are left out. The construction tax has no rebate for solar panels (BOIB no. 173 of 2023).
Yes, a little: according to the typical year calculated by PVGIS (European Commission, queried on 1 October 2026), 1,503 kWh per kWp a year in the Colònia de Sant Pere against 1,544 in Artà. The difference is a winter one: in the Colònia December gives 88 kWh per kWp, 54 % of July, because the mountains to the south block the low sun. In summer they produce practically the same.
Yes, with batteries and an inverter-charger, and sizing for the worst month: in Artà, November, with about 93 kWh per kWp according to PVGIS. It usually has a back-up generator for spells of bad weather. If the finca is in the Llevant natural park, we first check what its plan allows. For FACTOR, an off-grid installation has to prove that the site is legal.
It depends on the zone of the park and on the house. The Parc natural de la península de Llevant was declared by Decree 127/2001 and extended by Decree 8/2023, which approved its management plan. On a finca in Artà the first thing is to see what that plan allows on your plot; the easiest to fit in are panels on the roof of a legal building.
If the house is within the protected surroundings of the Sant Salvador enclosure, yes: it is a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spanish Heritage Act 16/1985, second additional provision) and the Balearic Heritage Act 12/1998 (art. 37) requires authorisation from the Island Heritage Commission before the licence. In the rest of Artà's old town, if the building isn't listed, rooftop panels go by prior notice (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, art. 148).
Few. Artà's IBI rebate expressly excludes holiday-let homes (art. 5è.7, BOIB no. 5 of 2026), and FOTOPAR 2027, which opens from 26 January to 30 April 2027, is for the homes of private individuals domiciled in the Balearic Islands. In the Colònia de Sant Pere the sums are done with the saving: about 1,503 kWh a year per kWp according to PVGIS.
