Solar panels in Vilafranca,
for the house and for the warehouse.

In Vilafranca de Bonany we install photovoltaic self-consumption, with batteries when they pay off, on village houses, on industrial units and warehouses and on market-garden fincas. We are a licensed low-voltage installation company: we calculate it from your consumption, install it and legalise it ourselves. We don't subcontract to anyone.

Your village

Vilafranca: a village on the plain, with unshaded roofs

Vilafranca de Bonany lies on the plain, at around 100 metres above sea level, beside the road from Palma to Manacor. It is open ground with no hills to cast shade: one- and two-storey village houses, farm sheds and warehouses, and market-garden fincas all around.

Village houses of one or two storeys

On straight streets with houses of similar height, the roofs don't shade one another. If the roof is tiled, the panels go flush; on a flat roof terrace, they go on a ballasted tilted frame, without drilling through the waterproofing. What decides the size is not the available area but what the house uses while the sun is out.

Industrial units, workshops and warehouses

A large sheet-metal or panel roof is a good place for solar panels, and a business that works in the daytime uses electricity at the same time as it is produced. Before installing we check the condition of the roof and how to fix the mounting structure without compromising its watertightness.

Market-garden fincas

Cold rooms, irrigation pumps and motors work mostly from spring to autumn, which is when the panels perform best. On a finca connected to the grid, self-consumption trims the bill; on one that is not, the system is sized, with batteries, for the shortest month of the year.

In numbers

The sun's numbers in Vilafranca

PVGIS, the European Commission's tool, gives Vilafranca de Bonany 1,550 kWh a year for each kWp installed (query of 1 October 2026, 35° south, 14 % losses). That is almost the same as Palma, which gives 1,572. With 3 kWp, a house produces about 4,650 kWh a year.

Month by month: about 98 kWh per kWp in December and 159 in July. Winter output is 61 % of summer output, a small difference compared with northern Europe, and that is why the panels work all twelve months here.

A battery makes sense when the house uses at night what the panels produce by day. If there is someone at home in the daytime, a heat pump or an electric car charging, the panels alone are often enough. We work it out from your consumption curve, which the distribution company records hour by hour.

Grants

Grants for panels and batteries in Vilafranca

Batteries: the Balearic Govern's FACTOR 2026 call subsidises storage at 45 % and accepts applications until 28 February 2027 or until the budget runs out (BOIB no. 83, 2 July 2026). It does not cover a private individual's panels and requires a home address in the Balearic Islands.

Panels: the grant for private individuals' photovoltaics is FOTOPAR: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026 and applications for the 2027 call can be made from 26 January to 30 April 2027, always before work starts (BOIB no. 171, 25 December 2025). You cannot receive both for the same work (FACTOR 2026, section 17.2).

Municipal taxes: the Vilafranca de Bonany tax bylaws we have reviewed (property tax (IBI), BOIB no. 188 of 2015; construction tax (ICIO), BOIB no. 128 of 2012) contain no rebate for solar energy. If the town council approves one, we'll tell you.

With the system paid for and finished in 2026, the income tax (IRPF) deduction for self-consumption (additional provision 62 of the Income Tax Act 35/2006) can be applied: 10 %, capped at €500. You claim the income tax (IRPF) deduction yourself in your Spanish tax return, with the invoices and certificates we give you.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and its justification; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. Whether it is awarded is up to the authorities.

How we work

Your solar panels in Vilafranca de Bonany, step by step

1

Your consumption hour by hour

With your bills and the distribution company's hourly curve we see how much you use by day and by night. That gives the number of panels and whether a battery pays off.

2

Roof and installation

We check the tiles, the flat roof terrace or the sheet metal, choose a fixing method that keeps it watertight and do the installation ourselves.

3

Paperwork

Prior notification to the council, electrical installation certificate, self-consumption registration and, with your authorisation, whichever grant is open.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Vilafranca de Bonany

Is a battery worth it with solar panels in Vilafranca de Bonany?

It depends on when you use electricity. According to PVGIS, each kWp in Vilafranca gives about 1,550 kWh a year, and what you don't use at the time is offset on your bill, normally at a lower price than you pay for it (RD 244/2019, art. 14.3). If the house uses most at night, the battery stores that surplus; if it uses most by day, it may not be needed. FACTOR 2026 subsidises batteries at 45 % until 28 February 2027.

I have an industrial unit in Vilafranca: can I put panels on the sheet-metal roof?

Usually, yes. On sheet metal or sandwich panel, the solar panels are fixed with brackets that screw into the purlins or clamp onto the ribs, with seals that keep the roof watertight. The condition of the roof and its structure are checked first. If the business works in the daytime, it uses the electricity at the same time as it is produced: according to PVGIS, in Vilafranca that is about 1,550 kWh a year for each kWp installed.

Do I need a building permit for solar panels in Vilafranca?

For panels on a building's roof, in the Balearic Islands a prior notification is enough (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e). A building permit is needed if the building is listed or is an asset of cultural interest (BIC), if the structure is affected or if the work requires an environmental assessment. We prepare the technical documents that go with the notification.

How much output do I lose in winter in the Pla de Mallorca?

Less than people tend to think. In Vilafranca de Bonany, PVGIS gives about 98 kWh per kWp in December versus 159 in July: the worst month yields 61 % of the best. With 3 kWp that is about 290 kWh in December, enough for a substantial part of a house's consumption, especially if the hot water or the heating runs on a heat pump in the sunny hours.

Is there an IBI or ICIO rebate for solar panels in Vilafranca de Bonany?

In the Vilafranca tax bylaws we have reviewed there is none: neither in the property tax (IBI) bylaw (BOIB no. 188 of 2015) nor in the construction tax (ICIO) bylaw (BOIB no. 128 of 2012). Before you decide, we'll check whether the town council has approved any change. What may apply is the income tax (IRPF) deduction of 10 %, up to a maximum of €500, if the system is paid for and finished in 2026.
