Your village

Costitx: stone houses in the centre of the island

Costitx is at around 135 metres above sea level, between Sencelles, Inca and Sineu. It is the village of the Mallorca Astronomical Observatory: open ground, with no mountains around. In the village centre there are terraced stone houses; outside it, fincas with a house and a storehouse.

Terraced houses

On a village house with a pitched roof, one slope usually faces the street and the other the back yard. If the south-facing one is on the back-yard side, the panels can't even be seen. They go flush, level with the tiles, and the cabling runs down inside to the distribution board.

Urban land: the short procedure

On developed urban land, a self-consumption system with surplus of up to 15 kW needs no grid access and connection permits (RD 244/2019, art. 7.1.b). That leaves the prior notification to the council, the electrical installation certificate and the self-consumption registration, which the administration carries out automatically on the basis of that certificate (RD 244/2019, art. 20.1).

Fincas in the municipality

On a finca, the Balearic Climate Change Act 10/2019 does not require a declaration of general interest for self-consumption on lawful buildings on rural land (art. 48.3.d), but the procedure with the distributor can take longer if surplus is fed in. We look at it case by case, and sometimes a zero-export system is the better option.

In numbers

How much the sun gives in Costitx

PVGIS, the European Commission's solar calculator, gives Costitx 1,530 kWh a year per kWp (query of 1 October 2026, 35° south, 14 % losses). Palma gives 1,572. For a house with 3 kWp that is about 4,590 kWh a year.

In December, about 96 kWh per kWp; in July, 157. The terrain makes no difference: with the horizon or without it, the yearly figure is the same.

What you use directly is the full saving; what you feed in is deducted from the bill through simplified compensation. As surplus is normally valued below the electricity you buy, and the compensation cannot exceed the cost of the month's energy (RD 244/2019, art. 14.3), a system that is too big takes longer to pay for itself. That is why we size it to your consumption.

Grants

Grants and taxes in Costitx

IBI and ICIO: the Costitx tax bylaws we have reviewed (municipal website; construction tax (ICIO) amended in BOIB no. 9, 18 January 2025) give no rebate on the property tax (IBI) or the ICIO for solar panels. If they change, we'll let you know.

Govern grant for the panels (FOTOPAR): there is no application period open right now: the 2026 call closed on 30 April 2026 and the 2027 call will run from 26 January to 30 April 2027 (BOIB no. 171, 25 December 2025); you apply before work begins and need a home address in the Balearic Islands. For batteries there is an open call: FACTOR 2026, at 45 %, until 28 February 2027 (BOIB no. 83, 2 July 2026).

IRPF: income tax (IRPF) deduction of 10 % for self-consumption (additional provision 62 of the Income Tax Act 35/2006), up to a maximum of €500, if the system is paid for and finished in 2026. You claim the income tax (IRPF) deduction yourself in your Spanish tax return, with the invoices and certificates we give you.

We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, submit the grant application and its justification; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. Whether it is awarded is up to the authorities.

Study with your bill

Electricity bill, photos of the roof and location. We calculate with PVGIS what you'd produce and size it to what you use.

2

Installation in one or two days

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about solar panels in Costitx

What paperwork is needed to install solar panels on a house in Costitx?

In the village centre of Costitx, three things: the prior notification to the council (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, arts. 148.4 and 153.1.e), the electrical installation certificate and the self-consumption registration. On developed urban land, a system with surplus feed-in of up to 15 kW needs no grid access and connection permits (RD 244/2019, art. 7.1.b). We handle it ourselves as a licensed low-voltage installation company.

How much does a solar panel produce in Costitx?

About 1,530 kWh a year for each kWp installed, according to PVGIS, the European Commission's tool (35° south, 14 % losses). That is 2.7 % less than in Palma. In December it is about 96 kWh per kWp and in July 157. With 3 kWp, a house in Costitx produces about 4,590 kWh a year.

How does surplus compensation work?

The electricity you produce and don't use at the time is fed into the grid, and your supplier deducts its value from that month's bill (simplified compensation, RD 244/2019, art. 14.3). Two limits: surplus is normally valued at a lower price than the electricity you buy, and the deduction cannot be greater than the cost of the energy consumed. That is why a house in Costitx is sized for its real consumption, not to fill the roof.

Is there an IBI or ICIO rebate for solar panels in Costitx?

In the Costitx tax bylaws we have reviewed there is no rebate for solar energy on either tax, the property tax (IBI) or the construction tax (ICIO) (the ICIO bylaw was amended in BOIB no. 9, 18 January 2025). You can apply the income tax (IRPF) deduction of 10 %, up to €500, if the system is paid for and finished in 2026, and apply for FACTOR 2026 if you install batteries.

My house in Costitx is old and stone-built: can I install panels?

Usually, yes. If the house is not listed, panels on a roof go by prior notification; if it is listed or is an asset of cultural interest (BIC), a building permit is needed (Balearic Planning Act 12/2017, art. 148.4). They are fitted level with the tiles and, where possible, on the slope facing the back yard. In old village houses we first check the condition of the roof and the beams.
