Sewage treatment plants in Alcúdia,
beyond the old town and the Port.

In Alcúdia, the houses that need a treatment plant are out in the municipality: country houses and fincas far from the network, many of them second homes. We fit new treatment plants for them and take care of the electrics, the commissioning and preparing and signing the documents.

Alcúdia: four wetlands and a vulnerable aquifer

Alcúdia has four wetlands in the Water Plan catalogue, and almost the whole municipality is a nitrate vulnerable zone. Two public facts worth having in front of you before choosing a unit.

Four wetlands in the catalogue

The wetland catalogue of the Balearic Water Plan lists in Alcúdia the Prat de Maristany, s'Estany des Ponts and the Pedrera de Son Fe, and shares with Pollença s'Albufereta, a nature reserve since 2001 covering 211 ha. For a house of 12 population equivalents or more, being 500 m or less from any of them means prior authorisation instead of a responsible declaration.

Vulnerable zone: 55 km² out of about 60

The Balearic Decree 18/2023 (BOIB no. 39, 28 March 2023) puts 55.0 km² of Alcúdia in the zone vulnerable to farm nitrates, almost the whole municipality, plus the «Alcudia» groundwater body (1804M3), 46.9 km². That rule governs fertilisers, not treatment plants, but it is why we check your plot's vulnerability on the Recursos Hídrics viewer: that is what can require denitrification and disinfection (art. 70.10 of the Water Plan).

Houses shut for months

An extended-aeration plant lives on bacteria and, without air, they die. In an Alcúdia house that only opens in summer, the blower keeps running all year and the unit is chosen for that: some models feed the bacteria while nobody is there (on the GRAF one2clean, for example, the Pack +C). It is sized for the August maximum, not the average.

What we do

What we fit in Alcúdia, and what others take care of

  • A new treatment plant, extended aeration, approved and compliant with the EN 12566 family, as the Balearic Water Plan requires (art. 70.14). We work with all brands; for example, the GRAF one2clean.
  • Installation, electrics and documents: the electrics as an authorised low-voltage installation company, and the documents prepared and signed for your architect or technical adviser to file.
  • What others do, coordinated: digging the pit, your builder, with the manufacturer's instructions from us in writing; sludge emptying, an authorised waste-management company, as the law requires (art. 70.7.f).
  • Service visits: the ones the regulations require or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's (two a year on the GRAF one2clean).

No subcontractors. In Alcúdia we check the four catalogued wetlands before quoting.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about treatment plants in Alcúdia

Which wetlands are there in Alcúdia, and when do they count for the plant?

The Water Plan catalogue lists in Alcúdia the Prat de Maristany, s'Estany des Ponts, the Pedrera de Son Fe and s'Albufereta, shared with Pollença. They count if the house has 12 population equivalents or more and is 500 m or less away: then prior authorisation is needed (Royal Decree 49/2023, arts. 76.5 and 77). Below 12, they do not change the paperwork.

How much of Alcúdia is a nitrate vulnerable zone?

55.0 km², according to Balearic Decree 18/2023 (BOIB no. 39, 28 March 2023): almost the whole municipality, which is about 60. It is the rule for farm fertilising, not for treatment plants; what changes the unit is the aquifer's vulnerability on your plot under the Water Plan, and we check it before quoting.

My house in Alcúdia is only used in summer: which plant suits me?

One sized for the summer maximum, with the blower always running and, if it stands empty for months, a system that feeds the bacteria while nobody is there: on the GRAF one2clean, for example, the Pack +C. If use is so occasional that treatment is not practical, the rules allow a sealed holding tank (art. 70.2 of the Water Plan).

And if my plot in Alcúdia hasn't enough garden for the treated water?

The rules ask for 25 m² of green area per population equivalent (art. 70.12). Without that area the water can go to a drainage trench, but then prior authorisation from Recursos Hídrics is needed, and for it silence means refusal. The other way out is a sealed holding tank, which discharges nothing but is emptied completely every time it fills.

What documents go with the responsible declaration for a plant in Alcúdia?

Four: proof of purchase and installation, technical specifications, the manufacturer's performance data and a maintenance plan (art. 70.4 of the Balearic Water Plan). We prepare and sign them as the installation company, with the electrical installation certificate, and your architect or technical adviser files them.

What do I need to check between service visits at my house in Alcúdia?

Every day, that the running light is green and no alarm sounds; every month, that the outlet water is not cloudy. And never switch the plant off when you close the house. Service visits are the ones the regulations require or, if the manufacturer asks for more, the manufacturer's: on the GRAF one2clean, two a year.
