Heat pumps in Mallorca
How a heat pump, COP and the multi-hybrid work, in detail.

We are Joaquín and Juan. In Calas de Mallorca and Cala Murada we install air-to-water heat pumps in coastal houses and apartments: one heat pump for hot water, heating and, with fan coils or ducts, air conditioning. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer: from the survey to the legalisation and the grant, we handle it. We don't subcontract anyone.

Your area
Calas de Mallorca, the coastal part of Manacor that began to be built in the 1960s, is mostly apartments and hotels by the sea. If your home heats water with an electric boiler and is cooled with separate splits, a heat pump brings it all together in one system; on the coast, though, it has to be installed with the sea in mind.
An electric water heater warms water with an element: each kWh of electricity becomes, at best, one kWh of heat. A heat pump takes most of that heat from the outside air. In an apartment you can start with hot water alone, using a heat pump water heater, and leave heating and cooling for later.
In summer the same heat pump runs fan coils or ducts. Underfloor heating, if there is any, is for heating only: in Mallorca's humidity a cold floor condenses. In a house used mainly in summer, hot water and cooling are what count, and that's how we size it.
Manufacturers warn in their manuals that in coastal areas salt can shorten the unit's life, and ask for the air intake side not to face the wind directly (the installation manual for Daikin 2MXS outdoor units, for example, says so). In Calas, facing east, we look for the sheltered side of the house or fit a deflector; and if the unit goes on the shared roof, the owners' association has to agree.
In numbers
A heat pump burns nothing: it moves heat from the air into water. For example, the Daitsu Multi-Hybrid states a seasonal SCOP of 3.72 (official Daitsu 2024-25 catalogue), about 3.7 kWh of heat for every kWh of electricity over the year, against one from an electric water heater. To qualify for FACTOR 2026, the unit must show a seasonal performance factor (SPF) above 2.5, also when it only makes hot water.
The thermostat matters too: according to IDAE, each extra degree of heating raises consumption by about 7 %, and 21 °C is comfortable. If you also have panels, hot water can be scheduled for the sunny hours.
Grants
FACTOR 2026 (Balearic Government): it subsidises heat pumps, for heating and cooling or for hot water only, at 70 % for private individuals, counting at most €1,000/kWt of output (plus €450/kWt if new distribution is fitted too), with a cap of €25,000 per installation. Open until 28 February 2027, first come, first served while funds last. It requires an SPF above 2.5, excludes air-to-air units in homes, allows one application per supply and requires residence in the Balearic Islands: with a second home, ask us first.
Any IBI or ICIO rebate for renewables is set by Manacor's bylaw, which covers Calas: we check it for you. If you are adding panels too, see solar panels in Calas de Mallorca.
If the work improves the energy efficiency of your main home, or of a home you let, and is certified, the income-tax deduction for energy efficiency may apply (works until 31 December 2026). Income-tax (IRPF) deductions are claimed by you in your Spanish tax return, using the invoices and certificates we hand over.
We prepare the paperwork and, with your authorisation, file and justify the grant; you sign the application and the grant is paid into your bank account. The authorities decide whether it is awarded.

How we work
Tell us how you heat water and the house today, how many you are and in which months you use it; with photos of the site we size the system from its heat loads, as the RITE requires.
We fit the heat pump, cylinder and emitters, with the outdoor unit sheltered from the sea wind, and register it with Industry under the RITE. Servicing: whatever the RITE sets or, if the manufacturer asks for more, what the manufacturer asks.
With your authorisation we file and justify the FACTOR 2026 application; you sign it and the grant is paid into your account.

Common questions
It can be, especially if the apartment is used many months a year. A heat pump water heater takes most of its energy from the air, while an electric heater does everything with its element. FACTOR 2026 also subsidises heat pumps for hot water only, at 70 % for individuals, if the unit shows a seasonal performance factor (SPF) above 2.5 and you are resident in the Balearic Islands (BOIB no. 83, 2-7-2026).
With the owners' association's agreement. The roof of a building in Calas de Mallorca is a common element, and the Horizontal Property Act (art. 7.1) doesn't allow the building's outward appearance to be changed without it. Take the unit's data sheet, with its size and noise level, to the meeting: in the Balearics noise is governed by Law 1/2007 on noise pollution, and the unit goes away from neighbours' windows.
Well, if it is placed and looked after the way the manufacturer asks. The installation manual for Daikin 2MXS outdoor units, for example, warns that in coastal areas salt can shorten the unit's life and asks that the intake side never face the wind directly. In Calas de Mallorca we choose the side sheltered from the east wind, check whether the model offers an anti-corrosion coil and recommend cleaning the outdoor unit more often.
Yes, with fan coils or ducts run by the same heat pump. In Calas de Mallorca, as everywhere on the island, cooling never goes through underfloor heating: with the humidity, a cold floor condenses. The RITE takes 23-25 °C with 45-60 % relative humidity as indoor design conditions in summer, and the system is sized from each room's heat loads.
For a home in Calas de Mallorca, 70 % of the cost for individuals, counting at most €1,000/kWt of output (plus €450/kWt with new distribution) and capped at €25,000 per installation (BOIB no. 83, 2-7-2026). It is open until 28 February 2027, first come, first served, requires an SPF above 2.5 and doesn't cover air-to-air air conditioning in homes.
Yes: Calas de Mallorca, Cala Murada, Porto Cristo, s'Illot, Manacor town and the rest of Mallorca. We are a RITE-registered thermal installer, we reply within 24-48 hours on working days in English, Spanish or German, and we do the installation ourselves with our own team.
Quality
For example Daitsu, Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric or Panasonic: we choose the heat pump for efficiency, noise and how it copes with the coast, not for the badge.
